This was easily our favourite course of 4 we played . Not a bad hole on the course . Sensibly they have 10 minute tee times which gets you round under 4 1/2 hrs unlike some other courses that cram too many people in with 8 minute tee times . Although not a fan of buggies unless you are young with good knees I would recommend using one here. Got clubs cleaned automatically on finishing by very pleasant staff - haven't been that clean since bought new !!

Played Penha Longa earlier this week. Arrived for a solo time, but was asked if I would play with another solo, which I happily agreed to. Small golf reception and driving range nearby. I would recommend carts as there is a lot of up and down.
The dominant feature of the course is elevation change. Lots of holes have two (or more shots) playing down or up a marked slope. Personally, I don't like playing up to flags on the horizon. The course was in good, although not stellar condition, and the greens were reasonable speed and fairly true.
The course is also, as noted by others, subject to word. On the back 9 (early afternoon), this got up to a point where it was virtually unplayable. A one or two club wind is one thing, but this was a four club wind, probably around 40mph, so the par 3 15th, 170-odd downhill over water, was a case of busting a 3 wood. Still didn't get near. Nothing the club can do, of course, with wind whistling through the valleys, but bring extra golf balls.
Overall, I would say it is a pretty good course, but several days later I played Oitavos Dunes and I would rate that higher.

The setting for this course is beautiful. We thought more do than Oitavos. Also, the infrastructure is a tad better. But note that it is very hilly and a tough course for most. Also it is not far from a racetrack. We played on a weekend when there was a car race. The whole round it was as if we had a huge swarm of loud bees all around us with an insistent and incessant high octane buzzing. If you can avoid going when there's a race it would be very preferable.

I was looking forward to playing this course because it is very famous and had good reviews, I was unfortunately very disappointed by the maintenance which spoiled a lot of the fun. It is true that the course was filled with water following heavy rains in the region which may excuse a lack of maintenance in the short term, but we still see that little care had been given to the course, bunkers not maintained, tee areas not mowed, fairway catastrophic. I can understand that the course is in poor condition due to the weather conditions but they do not warn of this condition nor do they offer discounts on green fees. No reduction also for a pro who comes to play, too bad that will make me not want to recommend it to my clients.

This course should be ashamed to charge what they did. $150 euro per person + another 40 for the cart. The greens had severe disease (dollar spot) and were in horrific condition. The pro shop warned us of this, but offered no discount and the putting green in front of the shop looked perfectly acceptable. What a sham. Fairways were a muddy mess and even the halfway house has no food to offer our group. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a worse experience but overpaid for the priveledge. STAY AWAY…seriously.

We’ve played slot of courses in Europe and a few in Thailand. Penha Longa is by far the most picturesqe course we’ve tried. Fairways and greens was outstanding and in mint condition. Great experience, helpfull and polite staff. 👍 only downside was my partner being locked behind a binding door for 20 minutes. 😳😝

Our group of eight have been playing here for a number of years and always looked forward to playing one of the best courses in Portugal if not Europe. June 2023 - oh dear. The greens were awful, bunkers upkept, tees untidy - some had obviously not been cut for a while, fairways just about acceptable. Very expensive and currently worth not worth it. Sorry but we will not be returning.

This is a golf course with potential. Lots of interesting holes and playable but in very disappointing condition, especially for the price. We were lucky to play it Ona 2 for 1 deal and still felt it was not great value. The bunkers are all having new sand and many out of play. Generally scruffy.

We would like to apologize that you did not experience the golf course at its best. We have invested a significant amount of money improving our bunkers over the past two years with new drainage and new sand, which dramatically improves the playability in the winter and the appearance of the course at all times. This work has taken some time to complete and you played while we were expediting the last few holes and by the end of next month all of the holes on the Championship course will be complete.
In terms of the general conditions we take your comments very seriously, we had an unexpected and unseasonal dry period in early May that resulted in a significant scorching of the greens and today they look much better than they did a few weeks ago.
That said, we are very sorry that you did not experience the course at its best and hope you will return soon to give it another try.

Nice course with beautiful views, but very windy. The day we played we had to skip 2-3 holes which were not possible to play.
It is pretty expensive but the service is good and we got very high quality rental clubs.

Sad to see the state of this course. Greens were scabby and bumpy, sand didn’t help but that’s understandable for the time of year. Fairways weren’t good as some hadn’t been cut and the grass long definitely not fairway height. Some were cut with all the clippings left on them. Tees were rough and scruffy with long spindly grass and one where we had to walk over boggy ground to get to it. Drinks were very expensive also. Sad to see what should be a good course not looked after.
