My friend and I arrived at Rio Lagartos Adventures on June 21 and were so lucky to have Carlos as our guide. We didn't have a reservation, and no one else was around, but we changed into our suits, paid for the tour and were off. We did the 2-3h boat tour (to see the flamingos, other birds along the mangroves, and there was an option to do the "Mayan mud bath" and bath along the beach on the shore outside of the river) and it was so memorable. I speak a bit of Spanish and was prepared to attempt to translate for my friend, but then Carlos offered to do the tour in English! We had a lot of fun, I appreciated his pointing out the birds and then showing us photos in his guidebook. Also the binoculars were very helpful since the flamingos were chilling at a significant distance. Most of all, Carlos was a very warm, knowledgable and kind guide!

We did the three hour flamingo tour in the morning with two little kids (ages 4 and 8) and two adults. Our guide Saul was amazing. We learned so much about the biosphere and the mangrove forest and also the way the Maya collected water before plumbing from Ojos de Agua. We saw so many birds (including flamingos) and also many many crocodiles. We then did the Mayan mud bath and we loved the little beach we went to at the end of the trip. Saul was great at explaining things to us and providing details the kids were interested in. We have been in the Yucatán for three weeks and have done all kinds of things from zip lines to centotes to trampoline parks, but to my two kids this boat ride was the best thing they’ve done here so far. They had a zoom with friends in the us when we got home and exidedly told them every detail. Saul spoke English but we requested the trip in Spanish because we are bilingual and this is a month long immersion trip for us.

My group stayed two nights at the hotel and went on several guided tours with Rio Lagartos Adventures, all of which were worthwhile. The birding tour was eventful despite it being the "off season." We saw crocodiles, flamingos, laughing hawks, and cormorants to name a few. The tour included a Mayan mud bath in mineral rich clay and a swim on a beautiful beach in the lagoon. Andrea was very knowledgeable and explained the differences between the four types of mangroves, how the ecosystem functions, and answered any questions we had. The fishing tour was very productive, my group used fly fishing rods to chase some tarpon and jack fish, then later caught some lady fish and catfish from the docs. The restaurant has a simple but elegant selection. Everything on the menu looked delicious and I loved everything that I ordered. The hotel rooms were wonderful, the beds were comfy, the AC and fans made for a very comfortable night's sleep and the showers were spacious and clean. As the only person in my group who is not fluent in Spanish (yet), I was accommodated with staff proficient in English. The whole experience was 10/10, highly recommend.

My partner and I took a 4 hour road and walking trip with Diego. His knowledge and classification of everything we saw was truly brilliant. He has a superbly keen eye, very good English and a real respect and love for the flora and fauna of Mexico. After being unable to contact them prior to our arrival we decided to go to Rio Lagartos anyway and called in at the Rio Lagartos Adventures Office when we arrived. We were told they've been having online/telephone issues. We arranged a 4 hour driving/walking nature spotting tour for the following morning where we spotted animals and birds including a very rare and impressive one. (no spoilers, you'll have to see for yourselves!) The Nunez family and staff were lovely, they all know their stuff with encyclopedic accuracy and are the real deal. If you are a nature lover with an environmental conscience and you want a high quality experience I highly recommend you book with this company.

My friend and I went on a tour to see the the flora and fauna on the region. Then, we were able to get a mud bath to finish on the beach. Andrea was our guide. She explained everything to us and answered our questions. She was also very kind. We had a great time. A true adventure. I highly recommend this place and Andrea.
