Chamarel is in the mid of the nature and surrounded by sugar canes plantation. They are the only one who do their rhum in Mauritius direct from the canes. The visit is well done and very interesting. But the most interesting is to be in the mid of nature.

We visited early afternoon on a Monday which was good timing as the rhumerie wasn't very busy. We chose to have lunch which worked out about £12 each (I had the curry and my husband had steak). The food was very good and it was worthwhile as it meant that the cost of our ticket for the tour and tasting... More

I am not a huge fan of rum, but 'when in Rome...' We stopped here after seeing the 7 coloured sands, it's almost on the same road. The setup is quite professional and scenic as it's set on a hill with a nice garden and the actual distillery area is very nice. When we arrived we had to wait for... More

Cost £8.50 plus to get in - the tour was less than 10 minutes with very little production to see. The tasting was a joke, two thimbles of rum both of which tasted like Bacardi. If you wanted to try any other, perhaps older, rums you had to pay over £1.50 per taster. Pretty gardens and buildings but all in... More

The short tour was very informative, the tour guides all speak very well English. Although the rum is not to everyone's liking we had great fun. There are also some local jams, honey and sugar.

3 generations and all enjoyed the visit of the Rhumerie. There are tours in different languages. The entrance includes a visit and free tasting and is free if you eat at the Restaurant of the Rhumerie - which by the way is great. Is a must visit if you are in the South of the Island. If you don't eat... More

We enjoyed our visit to Rhumerie de Chamarel. It was very interesting and our host, Kelly, was so informative and made the tour fun. She is a star and made us laugh quite a lot during the tour. Worth a visit.

We were taking the coast road from south to north and did a little detour up to Chamarel as it was raining and not really beach weather. On the slopes of the beautiful mountain- The Rhumerie setting is stunning. Although not the oldest establishment, it was beautifully planned out and service was excellent. We went after harvest , it is... More

The place itself is beautiful with very nice surroundings. To take a guide tour is recommended and also the rum tasting. Do try also the ones which cost 60 Rupie per glass. Much higher and better quality. If you eat at the restaurant the tour is for free, if not is cost 370 rupi. We did eat at the restaurant.... More
