Best to have a designated driver!

Great place to go and taste locally made rum. Its a quick tour and the opportunity to try the seven different rums was good. Scenery is pretty

This was an interesting visit which includes a guided tour with knowledgeable guide who was able to clearly explain the history of rum making and how the process works. There was a tasting session with generous samples - we went in the morning so possibly not the best time for strong alcohol! we were then able to explore the interesting... More

We visited the Rhumerie de Chamarel as part of of the scenic south tour organised by White Sands. The rhumerie is has a mountain backdrop in one direction and a view towards the coast in the other. It is an attractive building with a welcoming courtyard, providing a pleasant setting for sampling the varieties of rum that they produce. To... More

this is one of the nicest visit a person can do especially on a rainy day. you get the chance to do your own bottle of Rhum or buy from a wide selection of Rhum or Honey. the restaurant is a great choice with its sea food variety.

Amazing location sets the scene for a wonderful experience. Housed in a graceful colonial style complex, the tour is informative albeit the guide struggled to be heard above the din made by the sugar cane juice extractor. If you wish to partake in the tastings, it's pretty potent stuff so leave the car keys at home since you will be... More

Visited this place by chance when visiting the coloured earth. A very nice building and beautiful gardens. The place is rather new and definitely worth visiting if you are in the area. The entrance fee is a little stiff considering that you only get a 10minute tor and a couple of shots of rum - just the cheap stuff -... More

We had a whirlwind stop here of about an hour as we were visiting other places in the South also. Staff were friendly & helpful, with a small group of 6 of us being led round the factory/ distillery by a guide who explained the rum making process, from processing the raw sugar cane to the different finishes and casking... The Chamarel Rum Distillery lies at 300 m. above the sea level in the Chamarel plain. The whole formed by the distillery and the gardens is a nice beauty spot to which one can go along a road which fringes with sugar cane, pineapple and tropical fruit fields. In that factory the visitors have the possibility to see the machinery... More

If you're looking for an interesting destination, whether you are a tourist or a local, then the Rhumerie is definitely recommended. The tour itself was semi-interesting (full disclosure: I wasn't really interested in the actual process of how rhum is made). What appealed the most to me was the sampling of the many different kinds of rhum after the tour.... More
