There's something eerie, yet peaceful, about former battlefields and the monuments - be it cemeteries or other - that have been built in memory of such tragic events.
The Ossuary at Custoza is no exception, with the plus that the monument is located on top of a hill overlooking the plain spreading at its feet. It features a museum and the ossuary itself, which is found underneath the monument. This is the very focus of the venue, with hundreds of skulls and other bones recovered from the numerous soldiers that were killed at the battle.
The various flags and declarations of peaceful future intentions by governments that were enemies on the occasion are testimony to the futility of war.
