I spent four weeks teaching in Tianjin in June 2017. My 12 year old son and I booked this tour through Viator, and although it was pricy, it was worth it. The mausoleum was way more relaxed and less “touristy” than The Forbidden City was. (It helped that I have seen *The Last Emperor* two or three times and knew who these people were, by the way.) This section of the Great Wall was also much less commercialized and much less Western. ( No Subway, no roller coaster.) We ate lunch in a rural hotel and they served probably the best and most authentic meal I ate the whole time I was on China. All in all, it was worth it. Can’t remember the tour guide’s name, but he was great. We had a lovely conversation about amber. I think there was supposed to be a third stop on the trip. We never made it, though. We didn’t need to. It was a full, spectacular day!
