Stumbled upon this pub by chance. What a great find. Great selection of ales for the boys. Me and my friend are now addicted to sicilian lemon cider although we are not cider drinkers normally.
The host Sean was very friendly so helpful great knowledge on the beers and ciders. Was really a nice guy went back 3 times on our weekend break. We definitely will be returning next year.

Actually really happy with this place. Good seating and ok selection of beers. Cheerful barmaid. Felt very safe here. Happy atmosphere. Glad to see barmaid stop people using their phone!

Popped in for a few... Really friendly service, nice atmosphere.
4 stars as I would have preferred maybe a darker beer/ale on but did note it was greenhop fortnight on the poster on the wall.
No hesitation in returning x

Popped in the Smugglers' Alehouse for a nice pint of bitter but most surprised that they did not have any. There was an ale from the USA and another ale but no British bitter. So left disappointed without having anything.

I visited this place today as I was in New Romney for business and passed it on the way to the car. I only visited today to get some ale to take away, but I do visit New Romney regularly and next time I am there I will definitely be popping in for a pint! It is a lovely, bright, airy little micropub, with large comfy sofas and staff who couldn't be more lovely. They are helpful, friendly, polite and will happily chat through their offer (which, by the way is superb with more great ales, stouts and ciders every week or so) and let you taste first before you decide. I took home four pints of Hop Twister, which is an absolutely delightful hoppy, light summery ale with citrus notes - perfect for a hot day!
Even if you don't want to drink inside, please do visit this place if you like your ale and cider fresh and not that fizzy muck you buy in bottles. The takeaway cartons lasted a one hour journey home in 32 degrees heat no problem and you really don't get many places like this around. If you have never tried a real ale or cider, then you really should - the staff will let you have a taste and I promise you will find something to delight the palate!
All in all a really lovely little place and I am really glad I found it. Just wish we had one of these a bit closer to home!

We have visited quite a few pubs in our time and we often play that game, you know the one where you win the lottery and open your own pub. You list what it really must have (a good selection of cask ales, friendly and informative staff ((in this case a landlady)), a buzzing atmosphere and some unusual but delicious drinks for those not drinking beer) in a perfect world. A more enjoyable pub we have seldom come across. If you love beer, enjoy being in a pub and are in the area, go to The Smugglers Alehouse. PS. It takes a lot to impress my better half, and he loved it!

A great place for the Real Ale brigade, this place has a very welcoming feel, although small you can usually find a seat and people are happy for you to Join their table if there is space. I am more a Lager drinker and they do offer some bottles of Lager, but this place is mainly an Alehouse as in the name.
A welcome addition to New Romney, I have only marked down 1 star due to me being a fussy old Lager drinker.

Whether your just visiting or live locally you always get a warm welcome here. There is always something new to try and whether you are a fan of beer or cider the choice is tantalising.
The staff are wonderful and if you like great company you will love it.

Firstly I ordered the mango cider; didn't like it but tried my sister-in-law's order and I actually liked that better so ordered the Tennessee cider. I normally, well, 99% of the time didn't like alcoholic drink but that particular cider, I liked.
It is a little cozy micro-bes. Great place to just chillex.
