A different experience to 2018, but all of our whānau (19 in all) loved it! We had 7 kids under 10 and 12 adults who couldn't praise the tour guides enough! They were funny, intuitive and bush mechanics. It was all over by 11am but because it was so warm, our whānau cleaned up in the ocean. Amazing!! Meitaki Ma'ata

Buggies were great fun, recommend 1 per person and only wear clothes you intend to throw out. You will get completely painted in mud after the first puddle so sunglasses are recommended to keep your eyesight. Really fun just to hoon it and drift around (and through). Buggies are followed up with a drive on the Polaris vehicles up to a nearby 'waterfall' (it's not much of a waterfall but it's a nice drive) and then over some very rough and slippery ground. Don't expect a lot of traction! Includes a short tour/backstory of the nearby abandoned Sheraton hotel. The buggies aren't the most reliable and mine had to be restarted twice by hotwiring, but that only caused a minute or two of downtime in the 30-40 minutes of driving. Another in our group had to be given an ATV while they tried to get his started. Hotwiring is fun as a novelty but a bit more maintenance would be better. The only other downside was the scheduling. Staff turned up quite late and coordination could be improved, but we pretty much forgot about that as soon as we got in the buggies.

The baggies are in poor condition they keep breaking down we hire 5 of them and all of them break down 3 or 4 times The lane cruiser that we went up to the site and it's got steel sticking through the seats some very poor condition For the year and a 1/2 that they had while covid was on it looks like they've done nothing to improve this experience

Unfortunately this tour fell well below expectations, we’d done this tour twice before and this time it was a big let down. The gear is old, broken and kept breaking down - as they are not the buggy’s in all their advertisements , the tour guide was the shining light - he was excellent. There was so much waiting around, pretty much clear your entire day to do this tour as there just wasn’t any organization and you spend a lot of the time waiting around for the buggies to be fixed, it’s made worse if you’re in the dirty side of the tour first - spending 1.5 hours covered in mud isn’t much fun especially if the sun isn’t shining.

We had so much fun on this! We booked 3 double buggys. My 62yr old parents in one, Hubby and our 8 yr old in another, and lastly myself with our 13 year old. The whole group gets split up into two, and you spend one half in a either Buggy with a cover, where you don't really get too muddy, or the proper mud buggys, and then halfway, we walked up to the edge of the abandoned Sheraton Hotel to hear about the history behind it, then swap over. The proper mud buggys are crack up and most require hot wiring to start, and they do conk out quite a bit, but it's all part of the fun. The guys were great, and super entertaining. A Def must
