Based on my learning from another toy museum in my country, when Japan lost WWII they had to manufacture many products for America, including toys. Hence, it's of historical significance that many toys featured have American design. A tiny but nice shop with movable tin toys and there's a cafe nearby for chilling during bad weather.

Looking at the specifically designed and nostalgic pieces brought back the happy days when we were kids. I liked the girls and boys collection. Another great section is the "Welcome Collection ". Great offers at the museum shop and great food/ beverages/ snacks at the cafe. Entrance fee is 800 yen per adult.

Being in the region, we decided to pay the Happy Days toy museum a visit. It's very easy to find and conveniently located next to a huge car park. Admittance is 800 yen, which is a bit steep considering the museum is only one and a half floor. Good for about half an hour of entertainment.

The base floor displays several theme rooms, like a child's room and a music room. On the next floor a boy themed room and a girl themed room can be found. The boys room features trains, planes and automobiles. The girls room focusses on dolls and home making toys. The toys are in excellent condition, but very American themed. The signs say they're Japanese toys, but all cars are American cars and all sports collectibles are of American athletes. Also, everything focusses on the 1930s to 1950s. Those born after that era won't remember the toys but see them for the first time instead.

Although more variation in era (1980s? 1990s?) and area (Europe?) would have been nice, we did have a good time looking at all the toys and figuring out who enjoyed them. Being in a playful mood after visiting the museum, the gift shop full of toys is eagerly awaiting you...

We saw the huge sign for this place from across the street and decided to go in... Really glad we did! If you like quirky, retro things then I would really recommend this museum and am surprised it hasn't been mentioned in any guide books I have read.

At the corner of Lake Kawaguchiko lies a small Toy Museum, Toy shop and Cafe called Happy Days! The Toy Museum and shop is small.. And I do mean small.. It probably won't take you more then 20mins to walk thru the museum and shop.

The museum features mainly antique and vintage toys.. Toys from the 1960/1970s.. Mainly Tin made toys, dolls, pedal cars. The toys are largely American made toys which were imported to Japan those days. I'm sure there were Japanese toys but I think many of those toys were definitely American made.

My kids got bored after a while.. And to be honest, I got quite bored too.. In my opinion, it's a place where even if you don't visit, you arn't going to miss anything much.

If you really want to go, please visit the cafe first as you can use the cafe receipt and claim a 200 yen discount off the price of an adult ticket.
