- Rodman100Wellington, New Zealand755 contributionsPanoramic ViewsBe there early as queues can take up to an hour to get on the ropeway. The cost is 500 Yen one way and a 40 minute walk return to the bottom or 900 Yen return. The ride itself only takes approx 3 minutes, be sure to stand at the back going up to get good views over the lake. At the top there are excellent views of Mt Fuji on a clear day.Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten October 27, 2023
- Samuel PasaribuBekasi, Indonesia3,284 contributionsMt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi from one placeThis should be the best place to see Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi from one place. There was a long queue when we came and we waited for about 45 minutes until we get in the gondola. From the top we could see the Mt. Fuji and from the other side we could see Lake Kawaguchi.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 6, 2024
- Julia WMelbourne, Australia7 contributionsWorn out ropeway facility, captive crowds. To see Mt Fuji is wonderful and this is a clear vantage point. However I want to record that the facility and precinct are tired, poorly maintained and understaffed. Japan trains are spotless and cared for. The ropeway trolley windows were unwashed obscuring the view. The kiosk food and vending machines were closed. The toilets were overflowing with rubbish. The sunny day crowds were enormous and each paid for a ticket. Not a yen has been spent on this private facility for many, many years. It was not typical of Japanese excellence. Thanks Fujisan, but not the Ropeway Company owners. If anyone can tell me who to write to, I will write.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 27, 2024
- Karen MKirkwall, United Kingdom1,240 contributionsGood place on a clear day to get views of Mount Fuji & Lake KawaguchikoA great way to get a different view if Mount Fuji if you visit Fujikawaguchiko. The initial entrance is a steep climb, then stairs, to access the ticket office for your journey up the ropeway. The views over Lake Kawaguchi are lovely, but you don't really get to see Fuji until the top. There are lots of things for children to look at, cute signs & characters to follow & a squirrel area. There are food outlets & toilets. But it's all about the view, so don't go up on a cloudy dayVisited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 4, 2024
- SOH KIEN PENGSingapore, Singapore9,291 contributionsBreathtaking view of Lake KawaguchiAt the base of Mount Fuji, there are five lakes: Lake Kawaguchi, Lake Sai, Lake Yamanaka, Lake Shoji, and Lake Motosu. All of them are designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and each of them gives a stunning and mesmerizing view of beautiful Mount Fuji from different perspectives. Lake Kawaguchi is the second largest of the 5 lakes and the calmness of the lake seamlessly matched well with the beauty of Mt Fuji at her background. On the second day of our Central Japan tour, we arrived at the eastern shore of Lake Kawaguchi after visiting Kawaguchi Oishi Park. The ropeway station is located at a higher platform from a Fujiyama Cookie shop. The Fuji Panoramic Ropeway ascends 400 meters up to an observation deck near the peak of Mount Tenjo. The ticket cost 1000 yen for one person. Lake Kawaguchi sparkles like a spectacular sapphire gem from the observation deck. It was like enjoying an aerial view of Singapore amazing island of Sentosa from the cable car. Unlike the cable car, the momentum of the ropeway is slower, and my knees did not turn jelly because of height phobia. It took just less than 5 mins for the ropeway to alight us at the peak. Beside the scenic Lake Kawaguchi, we are supposed to be able to view the awe-inspiring snowcapped Mount Fuji waving at us from the observation deck. But it was a great disappointment as Mount Fuji decided to hide herself in the cloudy weather on that day. It was only on the 3rd day of our tour that we managed to see the magnificent Mt Fuji in her full splendor at Motosuko Shibazakura resort. Nevertheless, the iconic panoramic view is breathtaking though minus Mt Fuji. We took a group photo near to the torii. There is a wishing Bell of Tenjo and a small cafe near the observation deck. Mt Tenjo is also a starting point for hikers climbing Mt Mitsutoge. I noticed the staff were very courteous and polite and they bowed at us to say goodbye as we disembarked from the ropeway.Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 4, 2024
- Gustavo BarrosSao Paulo, SP36 contributionsBreathtaking viewWe really liked the view from up there. If you don't have time, I think just walking around the lake is enough to get a good view of it. But if you can get up here, I think it's worth it. You can really see it from the base to the summit, in all its extension.Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten July 8, 2024
- Nicole W61 contributionsRopeway with two viewsShort ride in an old ropeway to the top of the mountain. On top you have a great overview of the lake. On the other side you see mount Fuji, when visible. We had seen the mountain in clouds all day, we were surprised to see the top of mount Fuji when we took the ropeway. This was already more than expected. Even if you can not see mount Fuji it is worth the effort just for the view on the lake, and who knows you might get lucky like we did and see the mountainVisited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 23, 2024

Getting a ticket was quite confusing. We had to wait in line for a number outside then wait for a couple of hours until our number was called to buy a ticket. The cable car was very busy but once at the top it was very calm and I was glad of the crowd control. It was a little cloudy but you can have your photo with a love bell, rub a lucky rabbits foot and play a good fortune game. There is a really good gift shop and a food stall - you have to have the dango and take a photo! It's a must see attraction for Lake kawaguchiko but just be prepared for a wait if there is crowds

This is a great way to enjoy the view of Mt. Fuji from up the hill by a cable car. It was windy so they crammed so many people in the cable car, probably around 30 people then. Fortunately it didn't take long to go uphill.
As we reached the top, we could see the view of Mt. Fuji, enjoy the cool winter air, and visit the souvenir shop that offers Mt. Fuji-themed merchandise (and snacks).
Unfortunately as we were enjoying our time up there, we were called to go back down because of the strong wind, and as we were back down the hill the cable car service was temporarily closed.

The views are great but they force too many passengers into each ropeway trip up and down. Literally packed like sardines - unpleasant. If you have time, walk uphill. In hindsight we could've easily hiked and enjoyed the scenery.

Clear weather is needed to get best view of Mt Fuji, lakes and surroundings. As limited number can be accommodated in one trip, may have to wait a little bit. If anyone have walking problem may not be able to reach the bay for the rope way

If you are like me and love the sight of Mt Fuji this is another way to see it. We went later in the day and it wasn’t too busy. Mt Fuji had a few clouds around by then but still great views. The view of the lake is also great. Gift shop up the top to buy snacks drinks and souvenirs that didn’t seem too badly priced.

The cable car ride speed went too fast to enjoy the view. We did not appreciate how people were squeezed into the cabin when descending, it was crowded, back to back and an unenjoyable experience. The top of the ropeway had a nice view but the boat ride provided better views of Mt. Fuji. Overall, the price of the ride was not worth the experience I had.
Would suggest the boat ride instead.

Great trip up on the ropeway although rather squashed! Great opportunity to see Fujisan but only had a glimpse. If you are on a tour, you can't hang around and she does tend to attract the clouds. Howeve, we had a great view from our hotel in Tokyo so not too disappointed

Planning a trip to the Mt Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, I can't seem to find a site to purchase ticket online in advance. Can I confirm we can only purchase the tickets on site? Thanks folks
Written April 23, 2023
Hi Sherry, it cost 900 yen for a return trip and 500 yen for one way only. You can find a discount QR code in the local tourist guide that you can scan at the vending machine down the ropeway.

Where can I buy the lake ashi cruise tickets and Hakone cable tickets??
Written April 14, 2019
You can buy tickets either at the Kawaguchiko Station or at the Hakone cable car entrance ticket counter or at the lake itself.
At Kawaguchiko Station, you can buy all the attractions tickets and if you buy both / bundle, there's a discount for the tickets. Note that these are only valid for the day that you buy them for.

My family and I are planning to go here on December 29, 2017, will we still have a good view of Mt. Fuji or will it be foggy because of the cold weather?
Written December 10, 2017
You may want to google Shizuoka and check the cloud cover percentage. However the weather is erratic so my suggestion is to check a few days before going.
Written May 17, 2018
The Cable Car ride is Approximately 5-10min until the station. You can still hike up if you wanted to but it would take hours to get to the peak.

I saw in some website that there's 2-day use bundled ticket for Kachi-Kachi Ropeway + Sightseeing Boat + Sightseeing Retro Bus around Kawaguchiko area. Is it possible to buy this bundled ticket online in advance, while outside of Japan? Or, can I buy this ticket in Shinjuku or Kawaguchiko station?
Also, if I'm only using this for 1 day, is it more economical to buy individual/retail tickets than the bundled 2-day pass above?
Written February 25, 2016
Sadly you can only buy it in Kawaguchiko station. I would recommend buying it at the Ropeway to avoid the 1 hr queue
