This is the next best thing, “Katy in Angers” if you A. are lucky enough to get Katy and B. understand what on earth I am talking about!! Hubby and I are big fans of Cointreau (and Emily in Paris) and have donated a lot of money over our 60 years to the company (if only we had bought shares)!!!! When I discovered on our stop in Angers on our 4 week tour of Normandy and Brittany that Cointreau was made here I was so excited to discover that they had guided tours of the factory. Just to advise though, for some reason the on line booking form for a timed tour just does not seam to work, at all!! It is best just to email them with your requested time and tour, the reply was prompt and very helpful, for example we told them we were arriving by bus from Angers and they told us which bus to take and which stop to get off at (Bus No 6 & Cointreau of course)! Katy, our American guide from sunny Florida was really informative, very professional and a pleasure to talk to. (Do you get the connection yet? If you are French you won’t)!! Unfortunately we could not book on the tasting with cocktails but at least our tour was in English and we did get to taste the new Cointreau and had a lovely refreshing Cointreau spritz which was very refreshing on such a hot day (and will definitely be made when we get back home…if ever we have a hot day in Manchester). Very informative tour, well presented, just to go into the distillery room with that gorgeous aroma of oranges was heaven on earth, would have been very happy to have been locked in there for a few hours. Tour takes about an hour and a half and was €11 each. Nothing to see if you have not booked a tour except for small shop and would advise not to turn up without having booked a tour first.

Hi Rita! Thank you so much for your very thoughtful review of my tour and your overall experience at the Cointreau distillery here in Angers. I remember chatting with you as well and have kept your tidbit of Katy in Angers, like Emily in Paris, with me in my pocket. It really is such a pleasure for me to be a tour guide here at Carré Cointreau and especially to share my passion and my knowledge with fellow Cointreau fans, like yourself. I would be happy to welcome you here again whenever you are back in Angers for a more in-depth tasting with other Cointreau cocktails. Until next time! Katy from Carré Cointreau

It was a wonderful tour! Long and interesting visit with the best guide ever - Katy! It was very interesting, informative and fun. I learned a lot of new things. It is approx 1 hour tour, and it is totally worth it. The tasting was one of the best tastings I have experienced. We could try several cocktails and Cointreau Noir. I recommend this tour to anyone who comes to Angers - you'll not regret.

Dear Alise, Thanks so much for your review. I'm very glad that you found the tour interesting and informative, as it was such a pleasure for me to inform you as well. Since you liked the cocktails we made, you can also find many, many other recipes on our website, Cointreau.com. Hope to see you at the distillery again soon! Katy from Carré Cointreau

This is an updated tour for 2020 and even since we booked they have revamped the website to make booking easier. I emailed them to organise for an English speaking tour and Sylvan was very responsive and helpful, while Thomas did a brilliant job on the day. It's a really interesting tour, full of information about the process and the advertising over the years and concludes with making two delicious cocktails. There is a small and well-stocked shop too. Free parking is available. We were the only two on our tour on the day. Highly recommended.

Tours are now by appointment only, in French only, and the schedule is not published. We went out by bus 1.4 Euro, arrived at noon, and learned there was just on tour at 3PM. Made 3 swing around the all Cointreau bottle shop (a few candies and some bar tools also for sale.) and were back on the bus by 12:30. No cafe, no tasting, nothing doing that we saw. Oh well.

Only car dealerships, repair shops and factories in the area.

Hello, Thank you for sharing your feelings. Since 2007, our visits are on reservation only, you can find all information on our website "cointreau.com". Every tour is a guided tour, the visit goes through our production site. Tasting is included in the tour. Unfortunatly, without any reservation and up to our activity, it’s sometimes difficult to offer tasting or a short visit. Looking forwards to welcoming you in the future. Carré Cointreau Team.

We booked after buying the Angers 48 hour pass which includes entry to the distillery. We booked an English speaking tour and our American guide was delightful and very knowledgable. This is a must do visit. Angers is the home of Cointreau

Great variety of info from the science to the art of Cointreau. Our guide Katy was very enthusiastic. Perhaps could have known more about the science behind distillation and flavour development, but we were a tough audience made up of scientists, flavourings and horticultural experts attending a conference in Angers!

Dear Carol, Thank you for your opinion. We are delighted that you enjoyed your experience at Carré Cointreau. Regarding your remark about the science behind the distillation: indeed, our visits are for a large audience. It means we try to simplify the explanations of the art of distillation, which is a very complex process. If you have any technical questions, do not hesitate to send them by email at carre.cointreau@remy-cointreau.com. We will return them to our Master Distiller Carole QUINTON, who will pleased to answer you. We look forward to welcome you once again. Best regards, Carré Cointreau team

Excelente experience, we got to know the history of the company, the whole production process and with a wonderful tasting at the end. Well organised tour that took around 1 hour 40 minutes. Really happy with our guide Katy, she seems passionate about the company and we showed us how to do cocktails with Cointreau.

Firstly you have to get to Angers France we travelled by train and arrived at the main central station here you have two choices bus or taxi the bus you need is the number 6 not the the number seven as advertised in the Cointreau brochure you catch the bus directly opposite the bus station on the garrs papin it is the only single bus stop there buses 1 1s1d 4 6 10 and 14go from this stop you need the number 6 Z1 est which will take you to st barthelemy d Anjou get off at the Cointreau stop walk across the road and you will see the entrance to the visitors centre the bus cost is 1 euro 40 one way it takes aprox 10 /15 mins depending on traffic taxi cost aprox 15 euro the centre is on an industrial estate so do not be alarmed!!
You cannot just turn up you have to book a tour which will cost 10 euro per person you need to telephone and book tel no 0033(0)241315050 English is well spoken you will need to be there 20 mins before tour time booked
The tour takes about 2 1/2 hours which includes a tasting of Cointreau and three cocktails the tour is in French but they will give you an I pad in English the guide will also answer questions in English , the tour shows how it is produced , the history and the bottle plant. It is well worth the money and I found it very interesting there is also a well stocked shop there as well cheaper than the uk and Brittany ferries prices , to return just walk down the street a little and get the bus stop opposite the one you got off on by the roundabout again 1 euro 40 to the station again about 10/15 mins to the station the buses run aprox every 20 30 mins past the hour
I hope this information is helpfull as I found little or no information current on the net and what was there was out of date we all travelled here on the 4 th may 2013 if you decide to go have a good time it well worth it enjoy !!!!

The Cointreau distillery in Angers offers a guided tour of the stills, history, production & bottling areas and a long hall with examples of the company's advertising over the last 150 years. Hugely enjoyable with a very helpful and friendly guide. The 2 hour tour ends with a very generous tasting in the bar of a Cointreau shot and a (full size!) cocktail with nibbles. Recommended.
