Things to know before you go. You can drive to the cable car station. The bus is not worth the fee. Expect an hour or so wait for the cable car, fine in good weather, otherwise not, and you better like heights! It's quite a trek to the entrance but if you're fit it's no bother. The cave itself is... More

A visit to the Ice Cave (Eisreiswelt) in Werfen can not be taken lightly. It is physically demanding, and would take 4-5 hours from arrival in the parking lot part way up the cliff to departure. It is an interesting experience, but not an easy one. The cave is located at the upper part of an Alpine cliff. It is... More

The walk up the hill to get to the cave entrance is an adventure in itself. It is strenuous, but is manageable if you set yourself a comfortable pace. The views alone while walking the trail leading to the cave entrance are worth it. Spectacular. Once you have made the somewhat arduous journey to the cave entrance you are treated... More

All the other reviews here cover it. In 1879, when the caves were discovered, local knowledge was it was the entrance to hell (When hell freezes over, etc.) and given the level of education back then, you can understand why The caves are 42 kilometers deep, and the tour brings you in only one kilometer from the mouth. But the... More

This is strenuous, but not impossible. I am 60 and somewhat overweight, but I did this and am so glad! Go early in the day and take your time going up to the cave entrance, saving your energy for inside the cave. Definitely take the cable car up instead of hiking that portion if you are the least bit out... More

We took the viator your to the werfen ice caves. There is a hike up the hill but it is manageable for anyone with moderate fitness levels and the views are truly spectacular. The caves themselves are a natural wonder. It is an amazing experience holding the little lanterns and walking through the dark caves. It is 0 degrees inside... More

The Ice Caves are a must-see for Salzburg visitors. While the trek up to the entrance can be rather daunting, especially for those not too physically fit, like me, it is still doable and very much worth it! The first blast of cold air when the doors are opened is the indication as to how cold the inside will be!... More

Lovely place . The way to the ice caves is too captivating! We had snowfall just before our visit and the whole place was looking awesome. Yes, it needs quite a bit of effort to the reach the mouth of the ice caves and also once inside , there are lots of steps to climb up and down . But... More
