24 km away from Buerqin, Rainbow is a must-see destination on the way to Kanas National Geopark. As its name suggests, Rainbow Beach offers a spectrum of colors on its landscapes - a meadering E Er Qi Si river , with desert views on the south bank and lush greenery on the north. As we were there in the early autumn just before sunset, the scenery was absolutely spectacular.

Date of visit: 15/09/2016

Price: 50 yuan and no need ID

The best moment to go there is around 5:00 or 5:30 pm. You can first enjoy strolling inside the site and then choose a great spot where you'll be able to take pictures of the rocks while the colors are changing during the sunset and also the moon when it rises

How to go to Burqin (布尔津) from Kanasi natural reserve (喀纳斯):
A bus for Burqin awaits just near the entrance of Kanasi site. The departure time is 10 am but could be earlier if all the seats are sold so better not to go there too late (there is another one on the evening at 8pm). It costs 35 yuan and lasts 3 to 4 hours.

The best place to seat is on the rear left where you can open the window. On the morning, you can see the clouds hovering under the tip of the mountains so you can get great photos.

Once arrive at Burqin you'll need to hire a private driver to go to the Rainbow beach (五彩滩) which cost 120 yuan (make sure to check for how long)

Hope it helps

Forget the wrong and ridiculous translation to English. It should be called 'Rainbow Riverside'. I believe that it is a worthy place to visit, walk around and take photos and videos. But you should judge by yourself - watch the video I took with my drone and then decide. As I cannot upload my video here - simply do a Search (my name + Xiniang)

This is one of the best attractions in N. Xinjiang. The best time to see it is near sunset on a fine day. Please note that in spring (I went there in May), sunset there starts around 9 pm. The day is really long in spring, stretching from early morning (5 am) to about 10 pm, hence touring N. Xinxiang at that time is great. It is not much of a classical beach. The main attraction is the colorful land formation. The month of May was in low season but there were still numerous tourists.

Amazingly beautiful 5-coloured rock formations. We were there just before sunset and the lighting was perfect when the sun shone on the rock formations. Apparently the best view is from the lighthouse, but our tour guide didn't bring us there. The queue to enter the park at sunset was jaw-dropping.

This place is seriously over-rated. How on earth did it get a 4AAAAs rating in China?

Those stunning vivid pictures uploaded in TA are simply over-enhanced photos as I certainly did not witness such a sight when I was there.....

To me, the real thing is just some very mild variations of colour (there are supposedly 5 shades of colours : red, brown, green, black and white) on some uninteresting rock formations beside the Irtysh River - nothing to be awed by (unless you are very into Geology???). Go see the one at Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park instead - far more impressive visually and a lot more worthwhile of your time, money and efforts to get there.

This place is not worth the trip or entrance fee unless you're in the vicinity and badly in need of visiting some "attractions".

See the colorful people as the bank doesnt has many colors. Still interesting and good for views. From Burqin, taxi charges 100 RMB for round trip and takes 2-3 hours. It is recomended that hire a taxi for round trip as it is almost 30 km away from the city. Many platforms for the view. Go after noon otherwise carry an umberrala, water with you.

It's privately owned but people get still buy ticket to get in. Impressive and stunning. The scale of the site is not very big, but you can get excellent colourful picture out of it.

Amazing Rock formations and colours with a beautiful blue river and camping spots. Hard to imagine where you are and the colours. Almost like being on a beach but you are almost in the desert too. Many wind farms around and on the way there. And it gets very windy. Takes about an hour to walk through but worth it. Quite a surreal spot.

Rainbow Beach is not a beach at all but rather, an area of rock formations along a riverbank. The rock formations are distinct for being multi-colored and being eroded by wind or water into all manner of shapes. To the left of the entrance, there is what I assume is a small lighthouse, and little else. The more interesting landscape is to the right where more of the rock formations are. The river together with the rock formations make for a nice picturesque landscape for shutterbugs and if you have long zooms, there is a skinny bridge towards the northern end, where surprisingly, I saw farmers drive their hay-laden tractors across the long span.

This location is famed for having strong wind, so do secure your headgear carefully. It was also blazingly hot when I was there, but there is a small drink kiosk at the entrance. The fee is RMB100 if I recall and although somewhat on the high side, I have to say I have never seen such rock formations during my travels, so it was worthwhile. Allocate at least an hour, more if geological stuff pushes your buttons.
