The beach is about 3 KM from the Digha Station. The approach to the beach is a bit rough. Roads are broken due to the cyclone. The beach is very big and good. There are a lot of shacks available where you can rent and sit and enjoy the sea. They will even arrange the chairs and tables right up to the waves. You can enjoy the waters while having fried plates of seafood and chilled beer.
Lots of activities are available like speed boat rides, banana boat rides, etc. Kids will also enjoy building a sandcastle, riding horses or toy cars. You can even hire two-wheelers and roam the beach or go to a place called Mohona while riding through the beach.
The beach is closed after sunset and is not recommended to visit after sundown.

The initial impression given was misleading, and the reality of Udaipur Beach is quite different. It seems to suffer from issues such as a strong smell of rotting fish, crowds gathering for alcohol consumption, and a lack of law enforcement leading to potential security concerns, especially in the evening.

Comparing it unfavorably to Goa beaches highlights the stark contrast in the atmosphere and safety measures. Given these concerns, it's advisable for families and women to steer clear of Udaipur Beach and explore safer and more enjoyable options in and around Digha.

Digha - to all Kolkatans the name immediately invokes "Oh! No - Not again" response. But, just after Digha's turmoil and New Digha's crowd, on the West Bengal - Odhisha border there exists this gem - OCEAN Tourist Complex of The State Fisheries Dev Corpn, Govt of West Bengal on the pristine Udaypur Beach. We visited the resort in Oct 2013 - 11 of us friends with their families and really freaked out.
The resort is a 3 acre property with 19 dwelling units - AC/non-AC double bedded rooms, AC and AC Deluxe cottages, non-AC Dormitory - with superbly landscaped gardens anda huge water body full of fishes. The beach is merely 150 mt away - you can walk down or take your car. The beach is reasonable clean and very safe - firm and uniformly sloping. U have "NULIAHs" to help out the non-swimmers. The beach is also a food court - fresh fish and crab fries, tender coconut water and chilled "B**R" available aplenty with free shaded seating arrangement. Cant be better.
You can make this your base and visit nearby beaches in Junput, Mandarmani, Shankarpur, Digha, New Digha and Talsari. if u have a car, then all are within 40 km. If u are arriving by train, the resort is 4 KM from Digha Station - motorised vans are available (8 pax max) for all movements. Its fun in fair weather. If u are arriving by bus - the resort is right at the terminus - 500 mts.
The best part of the resort is the serenity u badly miss in Digha. And also the value for money clean and comfortable accommodation and homely food. The cook is GOOD - the support staff are friendly and helpful.
The flip side is off-course the Booking Hurdle. Advance booking is possible only from the office of The State Fisheries Dev Corpn, Govt of West Bengal at Bikash Bhavan, orth Block, 1st Floor, Salt lake, Kolkata 91. And this wd require a personal visit avoiding extended lunch hours. No internet booking. You may land up and take ur chance at your risk and cost but the place is heavily booked and it is not advisable. But once you are thru this hurdle, the resort proper in very un-government like.
Of course u must maintain adequate stock of packaged drinking water and drinks / packed snacks (if u have kids with you) by yourself as they don't stock any in the resort. But the shops are many and close by.
Tel. No. for booking at Kolkata - 0332376470 & 03327062263
Tel no. of Resort - 03220266149; 09434018849; 09474599853
Make a visit in winter - I am sure it wd be memorable.

Udaipur Beach is a unsafe place. People compare this beach with Goa beaches because alcohol is easily available on Udaipur beach. But Goa beaches are much more civilized. Udaipur beach is rowdy and not at all comfortable for families and/or women folks. There are many other beaches in and around Digha to be visited. Udaipur beach can be ignored.

We went to this Udaipur beach in this puja,we booked the tents online which were under WBTDC.These tents are 3km away from Digha. We had a booking for 3 days in these tents. We stayed there on 11th October. The experience was mind blowing. If you love the nature and adventure you should have stayed in these tents for minimum 1 night. The beach is still very virgin, not too many tourists go there. We enjoyed sea food with chilled beer in the beach and then went for a bath.We have faced the cyclone Phailin from Udaipur.Although we were forced to leave the tents next day.You can book the tents online through WBTDC site. Each tents cost 720/- per day including breakfast.

Are you looking for a nice, secluded place for a weekend retreat not too far from Kolkata? Then Udaipur sea beach( near Digha) might be just the place for you. About 2 Km. from Digha rail station this place still has lonely, deserted stretches of seashore. You can walk along the seashore, have a splash in the sea or take short trips along the seashore in rented bikes. A very restful place away from the hustle and bustle of Old Digha.
The best place to stay in Udaipur is undoubtedly the Fisheries department guest house. About 5 minutes walking distance from the seashore this is a beautiful resort. Most of the rooms are AC cottages. The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable. The surrounding garden and the small lake gives the place a very warm, homely look. The food though plain is quite good and tasty.
All in all, the entire ambience is very serene and tranquil. We are definitely going back sometime in the near future.

We booked the tents from West Bengal Tourism Office (Stephen House.Opp BBD Bag Bus Stand)...The rates are pretty good (600/- per tent) incl. complimentary B/fast. We were excited to see the tents set in the huge open area. The staffs are good and smiling. Make sure you give adv orders for your food as they don't have a kitchen. Call up Tent Staff Ganesh (07381325263) who takes order in advance and brings home cooked food. The food he will bring is very good compared to the food you will get in restaurant. There is no TV in the tent. Avoid visiting in winter. Attached Toilet is not properly maintained...u may find insects crawling inside the toilet. Take along Mosquito coil, Hit, Room Freshner). There is also a small park inside. Evening is great inside tent complex. a lantern in front of every tent is a beauty. Beach is nice. At beach u get beer along with fried fish, crab etc. u also get people to massage u. Hire Bike for a ride till talsari (50-70/- per bike for a 3-4 km ride). U may also ask the bike owner to drive u to new digha to enjoy water sports like Parasailing (Rs.400-500 per person), Four Wheel Bike (Rs.100-150 pp for a 7-10 mints ride), JetSki (Rs.400-500 pp), Speed Boat (Rs. 100-150 pp), Banana Ride (Rs. 100-150 pp). All these rides are great..one must experience it. If u like staying away from the hustle bustle...stay in tents for atleast a day. The place is well secured and all ur belonging are safe there.
Most important..Tents Doors are of cloth and is closed and opened by Zipper..take along 2 small locks preferably number lock as you may loose the keys in the sea.
Overall view is good, away from crowd and relaxed zone.

I have travelled to Udaypur Beach on two occasions - Nov 2010 and November 2013. My take is, it was very good earlier. Read on to know why and then check out the pictures.

In November 2010, this was a pristine, flawless, virgin beach with about 50 odd people here and there on the entire beach area, with miles of Golden Sea Beach, waves lashing away to its glory and the unending rows of Casuarina trees lining the beach and cast of the famous red crabs playing on the golden sand.

In November 2013, this was a muddy, dirty beach with plenty of shanties right in the water selling cheap fish food and beer, about 15,000 people here and there, plenty of plastic chairs for tourists, and not a single crab on sight. This was a serious downgrading thanks to the flip side of tourism. See my accompanying pics to understand what I meant.

This is a beach, peculiarly on the border of Odisha and West Bengal, thus probably developed by none in the last few years. There is a car parking area, from which one has to walk to the beach area. Natural beauty of the place has completely vanished,Golden sandy beach is now muddy and dirty, with smell of drying fish and garbage in the air. Red Crabs have obviously moved out from this locality.

Visit here once to experience it,but if you are after natural beauty, choose someplace else.
If you are after cheap beer and fried fish, enjoy and further massacre the place.
