Madhyamaheshwar beautiful temple
Jun 2018 • Friends
Madhyamaheshwar is one of those unexplored places whose presence on the spiritual map cannot be ignored. Set at an altitude of 3265 meters above sea level, the whole village gathers around to pray at the Madhyamaheshwar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This has a mysticism about it, supported by snowy Himalayas on one side and alpine meadows on the other

Madhyamaheshwar Temple
Oct 2016
It was an extremely spiritual and uplifting experience to visit this temple in Utharkand. Its is close to the Ransi / Ukhimath . About 20 kms from Ransi. Trek starts from Ransi . On the way , one can stop at a few villages on the way - accomodation is available ( Gaundhar, Bantoli have more options ) . Better to split the trek into 10 kms per day and do it in two days ( one way ). There are rooms in the temple site provided by the Mandir Samiti. There are other small private accomodations as well. It is very rustic facilities though. It is quite cold, so bring enough warm apparel. Arthi is at 7 pm and must surely not be missed. There is a pooja in the morning as well. Trek upto Budha maheshwar on top of the ridge is worth the effort . Be sure to be there before sunrise to get glorious views of Chaukambha and the Kedarnath mountains.Coming back is easier, so you could possibly reach Ransi by evening if you leave morning. Stay at Ramesh Panwar's place in Gaundhar was simple and nice. Porters are available as well.

It is a 19 km trek route from Uniana. It would take at least 2 days to reach there. Without trek, Horse is also available on October. View of the trekking route is awesome. The route is covered with Forest, River & Mountain.

A part of heaven on Earth
May 2016
Original Madhyamaheshwar temple was built later than 'Bridhha or Buddha Madhyamaheshwar'. As the original one is placed in a valley surrounded by cliffs at one side and peaks on the other, 'Buddha Madhyamaheshwar' is placed atop and is surrounded by mesmerizing peaks like Choukhamba, Mandani et al. Take the pain of walking just 2 more kms in the morning and you will feel being on heaven, for sure.

Ancient History

A 1000 years old temple is a architecture marvel, especially building it 1000 years ago when transport dint even existed. Even today one hikes for 18-20 km to reach the temple after an arduous uphill climb. But its all worth once you reach there.

Shiva calling!
Nov 2014 • Solo
I now know the difference between trek and pilgrimage. No tourists here, it's just too far. Starting from Ukimath, take a 2 hr. bus ride to Ranshi, then walk downhill to the river at Goundar, about 2 hours. Several guest houses along here. Simple rooms and food cooked over a wood fire. Next morning 7 1/2 hours of steep switchbacks to the temple. Locals seem to hike it easily, but I was exhausted. Again simple food and accommodation here. Got up at first light to hike the final 1000 ft. to the summit just in time to see the first rays of sun hitting the peaks.
If you want a pleasant trek in nature and stunning mountain views, this is good, but Tungnath is better. But if you come for Shiva, there is nothing like it. All other major Shiva temples I have been to have long lines and a crush of people when you finally get to the deity, with no time to take in the experience. November is the end of the season here, it's cold, and a long way from anywhere, so there were only about 12 people plus the priest for the morning puja. Then they all left, leaving only the priest and I in the temple for the next 2 1/2 hours. I got to witness the most amazing devotion completely undisturbed. If you want to be a sadhu for a couple of days, this is your trip.
