I never knew of this beautiful untouched mountain top temple until very recently and couldnt wait to reach out soon. We went there over a long Chirstmas weekend , an overnight drive from Delhi to the small and beautiful village hamlet of Kanak Chauri , around 34 KM further from Rudraprayag. It was very easy to reach with your vehicle, the roads after crossing Prayag, was narrow but decent. Its been my first trip post the floods in the mountains and was good to see the state has done a good job repairing and widening the main roads.
The temple is small but very peaceful. The short trek from the village to the top of the mountain is around 3 km and not strenuous. Try to reach there around sunset and you will be rewarded to a splash of colours over the mighty Chaukhamba and host of other peaks from far west to far east as far as you can see.
The priest is friendly and you can converse about the history of the temple, or just spend the time listening to the silence of the Himalayas and deep valleys around you. PLaces like these are not many , go there before it becomes too crowded, saw GMVN bunglow being set up down at the village.
Stayed at the village at night ... was amazed yet again with the breathtaking view of full moon over chaukhamba.

This Himalayan shrine is perched at 3048m ASL, at the end of a narrow ridge of a mountain. There is a small temple of Bhaironath,on the way to temple, a few meters away. The priests reside at a place half an hour trekking to the temple. You can stay there prior arrangement. It will help you to reach the temple to enjoy the sunrise & sunsets. No electricity, no toilets, simple basic things available. The priest allows tourist/ pilgrims to stay there against nominal donation. There is a huge round water- reservoir near the priest residence.
This is a spot where pilgrimage & nature are mingled together. You will be mesmerized to view the snow clad mountain peaks like Nanda Devi, Nanda-Ghunti, Trisuli, Meru-Sumeru, Chowkhamba Panchachuli, Kamet, Doonagiri Neelkanth, Bandarpoonch, and many more. The day of visit was cloudless, blue sky above, the place is so serene , calm, quiet, the velvet green tree tops below & houses in the village far below, an indescribable still photo, a panorama of 270 degree views of Himalayan peaks. . It was splendid in a word & we became spellbound. This temple is dedicated to Lord Kartikeya, eldest son of Lord Shiva & Parvati.
We were the first devotees on that day. When requested the Head Priest for our puja, he was engaged in “Shringer” of the deity & advised us to move around the temple for the time being. We obeyed him & after sometime he called us & our puja was served to the Lord Swami. Kartikeya is being worshiped as Lord Murugan in South India. The temple is the abode of Lord Kartikeya , an idol of stone is being worshiped there. There are hundreds of bells hanging on the support. On the right of the temple was an “Akhand Dhuni” & on left another idol of Kartik along with his brother Ganesha & the peacock, his carrier in front. On the back, left side corner, was an idol of “ Bana Devata”, the forest god. The ringing of bells was heard from about 800m.But what is more to be here apart from pilgrimage, is the awe-some view of the Himalayan Peaks. You need not know the name of them. So far I have toured, there is none to compare with . If you are blessed with the boon of the Lord & the nature, you will never forget the extraordinary view provided you are to reach there before sunrise. You are to
Legend- As per Hindu Mythology, Kartik was the eldest son of Lord Shiva & Parvati & Ganesha was junior to Kartik. Once Lord Shiva told his sons that between them who will be the first to move round the universe , he will be worshiped first . Kartik obeyed his father & moved with his carrier to complete the job . In the meantime Ganesha took seven rounds around Shiva & Parvati saying he sees the whole universe in his parents, in Shiva & Parvati. Shiva was amazed at Ganesha’s wisdom & so Shiva honoured him & since then he is being worshiped first before any one. In the meantime Kartik came back & heard this & being despaired he sacrificed his life, the flesh to mother Parvati & bones to Shiva. Here is the spot where Kartik sacrificed himself. So the idol of Kartik depicts the bones here & pilgrims worshiped him.
In November, on Kartik Purnima , there is great celebration every year . Thousands of pilgrims thronged to pay their homage, apart from Kalash Yatra in the month of June that we witnessed here.
It is a trek of 3km from the base village, Kanak Chauri ( 2500m), 39km from Rudra Prayag , in the state of Uttarakhand on the Rudra Prayag Pokhri road through dense forest..

Kartik Swami Ji Temple is located on top of a mountain in Rudrapryag district. The trek to the Temple in will take less than two hours. You will enjoy the nature, the view and the peace there. We reached the Temple before 10am and we were the first ones to reach that day (even before the Pujari ji :D). We spent about 2 hours there to enjoy the view of the Himalayas along with the Holy Kedarnath Peak. If you spend some time with the Pujari ji, he will tell you the whole story about the History of Kartik Swami Ji and the Temple.

Not many people know about Kartik Swami Temple situated at 40km from Rudraprayag. It is a 3 km trek from KanakChauri village and most of the trek route passes through woods and tree cover. Kartik Swami Temple on the top is beautiful sight and offers panaromic views of Himalayas on a clear day (we missed the view due to bad weather). Trek is not that hard and is manageable to most. Do visit this hidden gem.

At an altitude of 3050 m, amongst the mighty and breathtaking Himalaya, in the district of Rudraprayag lies the holy Kartik Swami Temple. There is a small village Kanak Chauri at a distance of 40 KM from Rudraprayag on Pokhri highway. From Kanak Chauri one can easily do a same day trek to Kartik Swami. Length of trek from Kanak Chauri to Kartik Swami is approximately 3 KM. On reaching Kartik Swami Temple one gets to see some really breathtaking views of Himalaya with peaks like Chaukhamba, Kedarnath, Meru and Sumeru, Neelkanth, Dronagiri Nanda Ghunti, Trisul, Nanda Devi Group, Bandarpunch and Thalaysagar wide and right in front of them.

This place is just a treat of professional and amateurs photographers. Just pick your gear, reach the place and start clicking some awesome pictures which you can prize for ever. (P.S. :- Don't miss to click Kartik Swami Temple in view with Himalaya Range ;) )

This trek is famous among trekkers as short weekend trek. One can visit the place during April to December in an year, but best of the views is available only during December - January months as during you get to see the most clear view of snow clad Himalayas Mountains.

This place is just a treat to be. One when reaches this place can really soak into the surrounding and feel really light and happy about being there.

This is a must goto place for people looking for a short weekend trek or some early hands into trekking.

Kanak Chauri is well connected by road from Rudraprayag and accomodation can be availed at Rudraprayag or Kanak Chauri, though for Kanak Chauri, the options are really less as compared to Rudraprayag. But closer is always the best, so plan in advance, book a place in Kanak Chauri and enjoy some awesome time at Kartik Swami.

The Kartik Swami Temple situated at a height of a little over 3000 mts. This can be reached from the Kanak chauri village, located atthe Rudraprayag Pokhri route. As soon as you reach Kanak Chauri, you start getting a glimpse of what is at store for you, when you reach the top. With a clear sky and after a easy hike uphill of around 2.5-3 kms and crossing a rocky ridge. You reach the Kartik Swami Temple and suddenly the whole panorama of the White Himalayan Peaks is infront of you.
There is a small ridge that take you down from behind the temple to a a plpace where you can park yourself and enjoy the un-hindered pristine view of the Himalayas.

Well, This temple is based at village Kanak Chauri around 2 hours from the base town Rudra Prayag . The journey from Rudra prayag to Kanak Chauri is very beautiful with all Flora and Fauna around. The trek is around 3 kms uphill from Kanak CHauri and it is little deserted. I won't say it is difficult but it is a nice expedition. You travel through jungle. There are some steps in the end. The Temple is situated on the top of the hill which makes it more beautiful. It is like you are on top of a hill which is surrounded by snow clad mountains. Awesome. Must Visit.
