It is all depend on weather........if you arrived with a cloudy weather, do extend your stay.
Worth to go where you can walk on the glacier without a guide or glacier tools like other countries. The sunshine is very special where you can see the mountain in red color for a few minutes........depend on weather. The hotel management is very poor, do not expect anything although with star rated. Don't expect good food as well. Make sure you stay inside the park for the sunshine view.

I wanted to hike up and move around on foot so I allowed 2 days for the park, intending to stay in one of the higher camps for the night.
Just to say, I DID my research on the internet. However, information that is accessible to people who don't speak Chinese, is very limited.
And so I found out all the important information on the day, on the spot. You are not allowed to walk into the park, you HAVE TO take the sightseeing bus (being the price of the bus separated from the price of the ticket, I believed it was optional).
I still did some walking around, even though possibly the only opened walking path was the one to the glacier. You walk on wooden pathways with steps, which is very annoying. There are two other walking paths from Camp 3, which were actually closed to public (in winter season), but since there were no signs saying closed in Camp 3, I believed they were open at the time. I suppose they didn't expect people to walk to Camp 3 when the bus didn't stop there.
That way I walked them anyway and then got on the bus before Camp 2 to come down. The driver seemed to be very unhappy and was shouting something in Chinese. When he understood there is no use since I don't speak Chinese, he let me on the bus.
I didn't take the cableway due to it being very expensive and the trip costed me around ¥500 already anyway- it's very pricey.
Summary (for WINTER SEASON, if you DON'T take the cableway):
-you have to take the bus
-you are not allowed to walk around with the exception of the walkway to the glacier
-all campsites except for Camp 1 and 2 are closed
-one day is enough (I believe it's still enough even if you take the cableway)
-make sure the weather is going to be good
The site is very beautiful, however, the way it's run and maintained is designed for needs of typical sedimentary Chinese tourist, not hiking enthusiasts!

went 1 day before Chinese new year and wasn't too crowded. we were very lucky that day as there wasn't too much cloud. sky was so clear that the mountains are visible and very worthy for photo taking. we hike from the mountain where the bus could no longer go up, which took us about 3 hours till the cable car station. the cable car went slowly so we enjoyed the 10 mins of beautiful scenery. once arrived, we walked slowly to the start of the mountain and hike downwards. there were snow/ice everywhere, so hiking was tough. there were no railings while you hiked down so really have to be extra careful. we slipped a lot of times, holding to the rocks are the other side to prevent from falling off the cliff. however, there are assistance provided if you choose not to hike. there were men asking if you need the sedan, they will carried you down and up again. but be cautious, those were not cheap and they tend to change the price once you are on their sedan. in addition, it is actually even more dangerous to take their sedan than hike the mountain yourself.
have to walk slower than usual because of how high we were at, there were times we felt very heavy in our heart and breathing was 3 times faster.
overall, it was a good experience. If you like hiking or a challenge, this is for you.
hotel wise, don't expect much. the stars rating are fake.

Went up on foggy weather first. You see nothing, as indicated by other reviews. Went back the day after when the weather cleared: what a sight! To get up there you buy a ticket, take a bus (about an hour) from the village, then a swiss-built cable car for ~20 minutes, which is a remarkable engineering achievement as it crosses the whole glacier. The views of the glacier from the cable car are amazing. Once you get on the top site (3,600m, 12,000 fit) it is simply marvelous: we walked around and everywhere the sights are breathtaking (see pics for example). Mt. Ggonga is 7,650m (22,000 feet!) and it looks like the giant it is. I consider the experience one of the most remarkable of my life, although I qualify this statement: I love mountains and I had never seen one as high. The site is fully organized for sedentary tourists, but keep in mind that it can be cold up there. Some snow had fallen in the previous days. Do not expect warm cozy lodges and hot chocolate, as in the Alps. No indoor heating is the rule. My friends spoke Mandarin and took care of me. It may be bit harder for a English-speaker to get by a few speak English. Take warm clothing along and wear sturdy shoes or boots, especially if you plan to hike down to the glacier (20' each way, the trail gets rougher progressively). We were fortunate that there were few tourists that day. The site seems set up for large crowds, but that would degrade the experience somewhat. The "street" vendors and tibetan guides at the top are very colorful and the food is good (such as meat skewers and barley fried cakes).

In the valley you can spot the east face of Minya Konka and the stunning glaciers. But it all depends on weather. In late April I visited this valley. Although it was tourist season but there were not too many people: visitors avoided here because of the recent earthquake in the neiborig Ya'an, which acctually did less damage to this place when it happened than now.
There was a nice hotel at Camp 2 where one can also enjoy a hot spring bath. At Camp 3 there are two hotels, one golden mountain hotel the other one silver mountain hotel. A good place to stopover for the glacier walking and cable car riding although you can do the cable car riding to Camp 4 in one day from the bottom/stay low in Moxi Town where you can avoid the risk of getting AMS and also enjoy relatively better hotel and food.
The tourist site bus takes about 40 minutes going up to Camp 3 and the cable riding takes about 20 minutes. In tourist seasons, it may take a lot of time waiting for the cars/buying tickets.
It was all misty up on the mountain in the late April. I can't see nothing beyound 50 meters. It is the eastern face of Minya Konka, and the warm current flows from the east, this is probably the reason why it rains often. At the westface of Minya Konka, less rain but less options on accommodation and involes camping.

In the last week of January 2016 nearly all the main cities in North America and Northeastern Asia were invaded by snowstorm. However, most people will still agree that our earth is getting warmer. Before September 2015, I did not really know its effect. I visited Hailougou ten years ago and re-visited the place in September 2015. When I visited Hailougou ten years ago, I could still see the existence of the icefield. In September 2015, I went up to the Hailougou again on a clear day, though it was a bit foggy occasionally. I took the cable car to reach the top part (Camp No.4) and still could not see any snow there. I climber down the "track" and went to take a closer view. I could see the crevices, touched the surface of the hard rock, but did not see any snow or ice. So if you wish to see how a warmer temperature will affect our earth, go to Hailougou - you can see and feel its effect. Of course, if you wish to see snow, go there in winter and the whole mountain will be covered by snow (but the glacier has disappeared or is disappearing). To go there, you can take the public bus from Chengdu Main Bus Station, and the journey will take about 7 hours.

Visited Hailuogou on 5 Dec 2014. It was a sunny day and the view starting from the cable car all the way to the top was absolutely stunning and breath-taking. Worth the visit.

Even on a cloudy day without view of the mountain, the treks trough the forest and the electric tram which carried us to the tongue of the glacier were worth the trip! The Glacier was spectacular with its crevasses, caves and arches! Blue ice and rumbling tumbling glacial river over boulders and colorful rocks will be long remembered!

Go up by 36 seater bus for around 1 hour
There is place for toilet and food selling.
Go up again using cable car for 18 minutes, reach the top of the mountain and see glacier spot, beside the photospot there is building for rest and have small snacks and drinks.
Go up again by stairs 5 minutes walk and see the top of the mountain with 4 face Buddha creature in gold.
Then go down again slowly, feel the comfy of the nature and back to the cablecar spot to take down again.
Remember to go to Gongga Shentang Hotspring to enjoy hotspring in winter, recommended and not as cool as you think, you must use on swimsuit and swim hat to enter there. It is one hour from hailuogou scenic spot and using the same bus for back to home.
The final bus will be on 5 PM so you need to be fast before the bus finished and you need to do walk to back to your hotel downthere

When is the best time to visit Hailyogou n surrounding areas? Is mid Sept a good time?
Written April 20, 2018
Hi I like to ask you some questions if is alright:
i) which part of Moxi town does a bus coming from Chengdu stops? Does it stop next to the main entrance to the Glacier Park?
ii) Which hotel in Maxi Town is located nearest to the Moxi Bus Station?
iii) Is it true bus returns to Chengdu daily but only departs at 6:00 AM from the same bus station in Moxi town?
iv) What time does Hailuogou Glacier Park closes?
v) If I want to visit the Glacier Park for two days, do I have to pay the entrance fee twice? If this is the case, is it more worthwhile to stay in Camp 2 hotspring hotels to avoid paying double entrance fees?
vi) What is the operating hours of the shuttle bus between the main entrance and Camp 1,2,3? What time is the last bus?
vii) Has there been a road closure from Chengdu to Hailougou in late December before due to heavy snow?
Hope you can help by answering my quiries as I am planning a trip there this end of December 2016. Many thanks in advance for your kind advice ya.
