We just stumbled on this place and decided to visit based on the AAAA tourist rating outside. It was the home of some ancient scholar named Zhu Xi and a rare place that escaped the cultural revolution. It's been carefully and I think authentically restored and it must have been a gracious and delightful place to live and study in it's day. Old buildings surround a small lake filled with colourful fish, there are lots of photo opportunities. Nice place to just soak up the culture.
Some rooms are museum style and there are some amazing old examples of ink-stone carvings. Cultural opium :). But there is no food inside, despite what they told us in the ticket office.

My boyfriend and I actually stumbled upon this place by accident. I was wary because it was ¥198/ person (and I’m super cheap), but it did have a AAAA rating. After debating myself (my boyfriend was all for it, so it was up to me to get over my cheapness) I firmly decided that we should visit. I am glad we did.
Before you enter they dress you in traditional clothes (over whatever you’re wearing). Once inside you get to see very beautiful and old architecture and traditional dance shows. You really do feel like you’re in the past. We like to look at and read as much as possible, so we were in there for two hours. It’s not a super flashy or crazy place, so it’s definitely for those more interested in feeling like you’re a part of history.
