Eight centuries of Lishuijie
Jul 2013 • Friends
We visited old village Yantou after the nice voyage on a bamboo raft along Nanxi river.
The day was be filled by pure water and the sun and we met the evening in the fabulous village Yantou.
Yantou village is the best known for the ancient street Lishuijie. The gallery Lishui was built of wood as a hydraulic structure in the Ming Dynasty.
Now this street along the canal with turquoise water is surprising not only foreign, but also the Chinese living in Wenzhou City, allthough the distance between Wenzhou and Yantou is not large, about 30 kilometers.
It seems that time has stood by these wooden arches. But life goes on, just more relaxed, more natural and close to nature.
This reinforces the feeling kind of flowering tree in a well-kept park and the sun setting behind the mountains.
Everything here is similar as many years ago. Women wash clothes in fast water streams, children play on the square in front of the pagoda and in the courtyard of the Taoist Temple, candles are lit in the old sanctuary old men sitting on the benches near the houses, the men gather for an evening game of majiang, on the cobbled streets of the chickens roam, ancient bridge and red flowers reflected in the calm water channels...
And only the web of electrical wires and satellite dishes on buildings indicate that it is now 21 century.
I think, it's very important to visit similar place fot to understand spirit of China.

Facinating
Aug 2011 • Couples
We came across the Yantou village purely by accident when our driver became a little lost. This led to one of the most facinating afternoons of our visit to the area.
Quite incredible to find an entire community living in this village which is hundreds of years old and does not appear to have changed much in that time. We witnessed families washing clothes in the canal alongside the houses, here we are in the 21st. Century with China putting men and women into space and still the interior of the country carries on, at a leisurely pace in the 17th. Century. Everyone seemed very friendly and welcoming a truly wonderful afternoon off the beaten track.
