Careful, it goes up, it goes down, it's narrow, we go to four dough. There are beautiful views. Cumulative gradient 239 metres. There are shorter routesVisited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 6, 2024
- MicheleSonia68Genoa, Italy1,718 contributionsBeautiful.Beautiful route, we followed a bit all the colors of the various types of trail, ending up doing a mixture from the easiest to the most difficult. Evaluate your fitness because the stone steps in the most difficult parts are very irregular and high and put a strain on your breath and knees (suitable shoes). Do not do if it rains because it is probably very slippery.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten October 15, 2024
- EurydiceChambery, France16 contributionsFabulous walk outside PragueI can't believe it. Guided by Petr, adventure tribe, an extraordinary tour of a magical place. Caught in ice, the spices compete in height to exceed the sandstone deposited by water in the receding Mesozoic time. To do absolutely.Visited December 2024Traveled with familyWritten December 31, 2024

The Prachov Rocks are a rock formation in the Czech Republic. Since 1933, they have been a protected natural reserve and the region where the formations are located is called Bohemian Paradise.
The formations are made of sandstone, originally in the form of a plateau. Since its formation over 60 million years ago, the rock has been eroded by wind and rain into the unique forms found at the site. Several of the individual rock towers have inspired names due to their appearance, such as the Leaning Tower, Devil's Kitchen, the Monk, the Elephant, and the Eagle.
Upon arrival there is an area where you can park your car, which is near the entrance and restaurant. From here you can choose different walking routes, all different lenghts to see the rock formation and to take in some stunning views.

Spectacular walk through the typical sandstone rock formations of the Bohemian Paradise. Some level of fitness is desirable because there are a lot of stairs. But that is more than made up for by the adventurous nature of the hike and the numerous grandiose viewpoints. Mandatory parking in a spacious (paying) parking lot and also paying for the walk (but it is only a few euros). This is a top tourist attraction, so it can be very busy in the summer. In September it was not busy.

The highlight of a few days walking in the area. Absolutley amazing views and experience. Worth getting up early to arrive before the many coach parties. We did all 3 routes but the green route with some hard climbs and slightly hair raising climbing is the best one to do. We're two fit 60 year olds and were probably the oldest people there. Don't be afraid to attempt the climbing bits though....they are worth it.

Spent an amazing 3 hours here after hiking to the rock park from Jicin.
Entrance fee per adult was 80 kc. You can choose from a number of routes, some easier than others. We picked a more difficult one, which involved some steps and narrow rock crevices (perhaps not so good if you suffer from claustrophobia) but was extremely rewarding.
The sandstone rock formations are truly something to be seen - the pictures don't quite do it justice. It's a very atmospheric place (though it was fairly busy) and you might want to bring in a picnic to enjoy the place. They actually sell dried fruit and pick & mix at the park entrance, which is actually a really good idea for some of the steep climbs.
Good shoes also recommended - it is very slippery in places.
There are cafes just outside the park for hot and cold food and snacks. The car park was quite small and was full by noon.
A really magical place!

My wife and I visited Cesky Raj (Bohemian Paradise) and Adrspach-Teplice Rocks, two areas in northern Czech Republic with magnificent rock formations in April, 2019. We enjoyed our visit to these two quiet, scenic areas much more than the crowded, big-bus tourist towns of Prague and Cesky Krumlov. If you only have time for one area, we would recommend Adrspach-Teplice Rocks for its more varied rock formations, fewer visitors, and more remote setting. However, Cesky Raj is much closer to Prague. We rented a car for our visit.
The Prachov Rocks (Prachovske Skaly) hike was our favorite in the Cesky Raj area. It has the best rock formations, accessible by stairways that go up into and through the rocks. The entrance fee is 80 czk. Parking cost 80 czk. The other rock formation area in Cesky Raj, Hruboskalsko, is more spread out, less accessible, and not as dramatic in our view. However, Hruboskalsko is less crowded and there are much longer hiking trails (a 11 km red trail runs from Trosky Castle, past Hruba Skala Chateau, to Valstejn Castle).
As other reviewers have recommended, take the 3.5 km green loop trail (about 2.5 hrs). For those with less time or energy, there is a shorter 1.5 km yellow loop trail (about 1 hour) which overlaps parts of the green loop (see uploaded map). There is also a red trail that connects the two parking areas for Prachov Rocks.
For those coming by car, I would recommend parking at Turisticka Chata (GPS coordinates: 50.468569, 15.285115) instead of Prachov. The entrance at Turisticka Chata gets you right into the start of the green and yellow loop trails. If you park at Prachov, you will need to hike the red trail for more than 1 km before reaching the yellow and green trails.
The best place to stay for visiting Cesky Raj is Jicin, a quiet, charming town with plenty of restaurants, and hotels. We stayed at Hotel Jicin. With a car, it is a 10 minute drive from Jicin to Prachov Rocks. Other sights worth visiting in the Cesky Raj area include Hruboskalsko, Trosky Castle, and Kost Castle.

On our way from prague to wroclaw we stopped by these very nice rock columns.
There is payment for the parking (80 kcz) and for the entrance (around 40 kcz each).
In the site there are few kind trails which the main difference is the length of the route.
We took the green route which is 3.5 km. It took us around 2.5 hours for a family with 2 adult children and a teen. It was a bit tough but we managed through.
We had good time. Totally worth the cost

This is a must in the Cesky Raj. Amazing rock formations, rock stairs in places you could not have imagined, rock climbers. For easier planning I attach a map.

If you are tired of city sightseeing, take a trip from Prague to Jičín and a few kilometers before you turn left. You will get to nature reserve Prachov Rocks. There is a payed entrance. Save your ticket as you will get a discount on access to other partner attractions in the Czech Republic, such as the Kingdom of railways or Mirakulum. As you enter, you can choose some paths, which you will lead thru the rocks. The difference is in time you need to go thru. Right by the parking is a restaurant a gift shop. Better you will get some drinks to the rocks, because when you choose the longest path it will takes about 3 hours (with 6 yers old child) and you will get thirsty. For this trip is bettr to use good trekking shoes, backpack and outdoor clothes. Walking along the green trail is a bit more physically demanding, but the reward is beautiful views of the rocks and the countryside. However, even the child can handle it. This is a place that every nature lover must see and experience.

We visited this place after we spent some days at Adrspach-Teplice Rocks. We liked this place with its well maintained walks and beautiful rocks, but I don't think we will come back to here again. We will rather go back to Adrspach, we liked that one more.
This place was very busy and have lots of great rock forms, but none of them made us WOW.
If you are around, I still recommend to come here and spend a day to walk around.

Martin

Hi, I'm planning to do the green route at Prachov Rocks in a couple of weeks' time and wanted to check that it's not very difficult.
Thanks for any advice!
Written November 3, 2019
I didn’t find the green route difficult. There are some tricky sections but I was able to navigate it easily and I don’t hike often and I’m not sure footed!
Written November 4, 2019
Yes, dogs are allowed here. But there is a small entry fee for dog - 10 CZK I think.
In general, Czech Republic is dog friendly country. Even in pubs, restaurants etc.

My friend and I are planning to take the 2:00 bus from Cerny Most, arrive in Jicin at 3:20 then take a local bus to Holin at 3:35 or 3:40. We're planning on hiking for a couple hours then taking a bus back to Jicin at 6:20 and taking the 7:30 bus back to Prague. Do you think this will give us enough time to explore the rocks?

Hi Christa,
Please note that the park is closing at 17:00.
2 Hours is O.K for a nice and easy walk around the park.
Have a nice trip,

The closest bus stop is called "Holín, Prachov, Skalní město", from where it is just a short walk to the entrance.
The closest train stations are Libuň and Jinolice (5 km walk).
Unfortunately Tripadvisor does not allow me to post a link to the timetables, but you can find them when you just google "jizdnirady IDOS".
