Good food, well presented.

Nice light lunch - sandwiches, jacket potatoes or small plate dishes - well presented and at really good prices. Bigger plate options also available. Friendly, pleasant, will be back.

Tasty Sunday Dinner
May 2021 • Couples
My husband and I were visiting Newark for the weekend. They were recommended by our bed and breakfast the Newark Lodge Guest House.
The Sunday Lunch was fantastic and very tasty.
Loads of vegetables and 2 Yorkshire puds.
I'll definitely go again next time I'm in Newark.

Don’t bother
Dec 2019 • Friends
Service was awful, food was awful and really cold. Complained about the lamb, and told “oh yeah we’ve had a few complaints about that”. Why bother asking if it’s ok if you do nothing about it???

Over priced

Lovely place but just so over priced, beer is expensive and not even good quality, you could go to the local wetherspoons for cheaper and same quality

Nice pub but poor prices...£9.90 for 2 pints of sanmiguel that wasn't really fizzy, tasted crap.

Would rather go shop next door.

Way over priced for what it is, better pubs in town that charge less.

Bad management & poor customer service
Dec 2018 • Couples
My husband and I have been dining at this resturant every Sunday for the previous 5 months now and believe the food to be of a high quality, everything you'd want for a Sunday dinner. After preparing home cooked meals everyday during the week we consider going out for a Sunday roast as a treat, and something we've very much enjoyed, becoming a sweet tradition of ours. After our first meal at Chester's we enjoyed the food and overall atmosphere so much so we telephoned the Landlady the next day and requested we have a more permanent slot each week, to which she happily agreed and gave us a time of 12:15 each Sunday which we have never missed to date ! Until recent events we had no complaints about this establishment, until our last visit on Sunday (09/12/2018) to where we took our tea and coffee and assumed our usual set table. However, to our surprise our seats had been set for a table of 4 instead of a table of 2. Therefore we proceeded to ask the table/ bar staff wondering if there had been a mix up, to which we was told our table had been given to someone else

The best night of my life (body condition score 8/9)

We came here to watch the champions league and left with so much more. Michelle Bubbles on the ones and twos provided us with much entertainment, we particularly enjoyed when he sang human and ladies night got up to dance. He had a groupie I white jeans that bumped and grinded all round the pub.

The illegal streaming of BT was marvellous, but the sound delay did ruin things a little for my boyfriend. Luckily he could jump on Twitter with his frustrations at Ramos.

Overall a marvellous evening with plenty of stimulants.

Lovely meal .

We had a lovely meal here on March 10th , all well presented and good portions , reasonable prices too. The staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant is small and fairly intimate, there is a conservatory for better weather . Couldn't fault it at all .

Sunday Lunch
Jan 2018 • Friends
After reading reviews rega4ding this pub I still decided to give it ago for Sunday lunch with my family. I had been to the pub on two other occasions. I booked the table a week in advance for 1.30pm on Sunday 14/1 we did not sit until 1.50pm it then took a further 20mins to place our starters and main for 4 people the starters were not to bad 2 camembert and 2 homemade soup, the soup was served in a cold bowl but the soup was tasty. The camembert was nice.
The main arrived at 2.50pm where 2 lamb, 1 chicken and 1 beef was ordered the plates arrived with 1 roast potatoe on each and yorkshire pudding, but took a further 5 mins for the plate of veg there was no condiments offered and I felt even if I asked I would have waited and my dinner would have been eaten before it arrived. The roast potatoes which was served with dinner seemed to be cooked in oven however when I asked for extra these had been done in fryer not so nice.
The lamb was nice, the beef was over cooked the chicken was ok the gravy was nice however overall service took too long, lack of customer service from the 2 younger servers
We decided not to order dessert as we felt we may have been in there a further 2 hours

Would I recommend a place to go maybe during the week however not for Sunday lunch unless you don't mind being there a good few hours

I feel the pub could improve service by serving meat, veg and pots in the kitchen and ensure there is 3 or 4 roast pots on each plate ensure continuity as the table we sat next to had 3 roasts pot on each plate (4) and then received another bowl of roast potatoes

Truly awful
Jan 2018 • Friends
Lovely cheerful chap behind the bar - great service there. Everything else was abysmal. We sat in a cold conservatory by the car park, shocking waiter service from monosyllabic person lacking in any aptitude for the job, waited ages and then had some of the worst food I’ve been served in years. Rancid oily fish, inedible hard chips and uncooked peas. We all feel sick and can’t get the taste of days’ old cooking oil out of our mouths several hours later.
