Mamore Gap is the starting point of 1 of the best hill walks in Ireland. You can find a description of the walk from the Gap along the ridge of the Urris Hills then down to Dunree Strand on my Web Site www.linsfortcastle.com . Just follw the link to everytrail.com where there is a description and phtotgraphs of the walk. It is not too difficult but you need good boots, waterproofs, a bag of sarnies , water and 4 and a half to 5 hours. Your reward is an exceptional walking experience with unmatched Inishowen and Donegal scenery and Lough Swilly and the Atlantic Ocean.

We discovered this place one Sunday afternoon during a relaxing drive and now it has become something of a tradition to pass through here every now and again. It is true that it is not a great idea to take nervous passengers it is quite nerve wrecking at certain points but the road has been recently improved and will be passable to drivers of all skill levels who show some caution. The grotto at the peak with statues of Our Lady and Padre Pio is very peaceful and lots of people have left their asthma inhalers there - Believing that they no longer need them. Im sure the fresh air has a lot to do with this!! Cant wait to visit again!!

This is quite a drive , not for the nervous driver . You climb up a huge hill probably down to first gear when reaching the top ! Some great view over the coast as you wind your way down the other side back towards Clonmany .

Brilliant drive with brilliant views, I would say in jest though don't take nervous passengers as they won't see anything with their eyes shut tight on the way up or down (depending how you approach it)..... Worth it though for the views.

Although the view up in the gap was marred by low cloud and a heavy fog lower down the view across the Atlantic was breathtaking

Unfortunately it was a slightly rainy day when I drove through Mamore Gap, but I would love to go back on a sunny day. The views were simply breathtaking even through the raindrops. I can see where some people might be slightly afraid driving around all the bends in the road, but you just take your time and enjoy the view. This is definitely one of Ireland's hidden gems. If you like to get away from the well-known tourist attractions, I would suggest you add this to your list of places to visit.

This has to be one of the most scenic drives on the island of Ireland. The road is steep and winding but if you take your time driving it you'll be rewarded with stunning views.
As we were staying very nearby, we also returned after dark and spent some time parked up so that we could take in the night sky. Just fabulous!
