It is must visit for those who are are looking for something interesting other than temples and beaches in Konkan, It remind us to how simple life was with basic needs addressed in the village. This place is an ideal and good place for families, couples, children as well as friends. All this at a reasonable rate of 40/- per adult with a guide. For kids it is good to learn and see the past history about Konkan and Twelve Balutedar system we had in past. It has lot of information about uses of plants , shrubs for medicinal uses . It is is guided tour and you cannot see without a guide. Entry fee is Rs 40 per person and for camera Rs 20 extra. It also has Shell museum where you cannot take photos. Here you can buy gift articles made from shell. This place also has a restaurant where you can relax and have food. Advisable to visit all seasons except monsoon. Vehicle parking is free.

Best place to visit and explore history of Konkan. They have made everything in detail using all natural resources. The young Team had done great job in presenting lifestyle of Konkan. Please do not skip visit to this museum its really great experience. Every State of India shall prepare such museum so that people visiting different states in India can gather knowledge about the different lifestyle and culture of those states. I must say the guide they provide are so learned they will provide all the details meticulously.

This is a private open museum and depicts the life, flora and fauna of the Konkan Region. It is private property and there is an entry ticket and a guide. The place is well maintained. The place also offers Konkani food but better to have it outside the complex as their restaurant is not up to the mark.

This is a private place (they call it museum!!!!!!!!!!) made by a enterprising person owning a good piece of land with lot of tress in the garden. They charge 30 per person and 20 per camera (including mobile phone). Nothing much you can see inside. However, it is a trek among trees and greenery which is the only positive side of the visit. They have created various sheds to explain various village activities typically done in a village. There is nothing particular about Konkan as it is the same for all villages in India. There is a shop at the end from where you can buy few stuffs which are generally available outside. Typically the place will be recommended by some shops near the MTDC resort. Can be easily avoided as nothing great is inside the place.

This Museum is located 2 KM away from main Ganpatipule. Ticket cost is around Rs. 40 / person. Different type of Museum and good experience for kids. However this all involve lot of walking and that too on hills for 1 hour.
So if you can do that, must visit place. Lots of parking available inside place.

we visited Prachin Konkan museum a couple of days back. Entry fee Rs. 30 for all above 10 years. Rs. 15 for kids. Free guide.
The museum is a good source of information. However, it is a literal hike. My mother in law had to stay back after a few steps as she could not climb up. Not very well maintained. Guide is very monotonous. I mentioned this to my husband and he told me that if I had to repeat the same thing 10 times a day, then I too would have been the same so I guess not the Lady's fault :). Would suggest non marathi speaking visitors to check before hand if a guide is available who spoke Hindi or English. Since we could understand Marathi, did not feel the need at that time.
Would recommend a visit.

This place is quite informative about konkan culture and guides accompanying gives you good in-depth knowledge. There is small place on the top of mountain with good collection of 'Shankh'. Good for shopping small trinklets for girls. Try drinking water from water pots (matka) buried in the ground. The water is real cool even in full summer. Avoid if you are very hygiene conscious.Overall good experience.

At a distance of 600 m from Ganpatipule Bus Stand and 1 km from Ganpatipule Beach, Prachin Kokan is an open air museum situated in Ganpatipule. It is one of the top places to visit in Ganpatipule.
Spread over an area of 3 acres, the museum has several exhibits depicting the traditional Konkan way of life. The museum was constructed in 2004 by Vaibhav Sardesai who succeeded in not only providing interesting information about Konkan to the tourists but also employment opportunities for the locals. One can get the glimpses of local rural life including the local deities, the lifestyle, barter trade of the olden days, various professions of the people, etc. inside the museum.
The museum showcases the ingenuity of the Kokan with sculptures of the Maratha hero Shivaji maharaj depicting historical moments, and models of the amazing sea forts in the Kokan region. Prachin Konkan has a counter for exhibiting the Sawantwadi wooden handicrafts, the first of its kind in Ganpatipule, where tourists can purchase memorabilia and souvenirs. In Prachin Kokan there is also a Nakshatra Baug - a garden of trees for each sun sign.
Set in a lush green locale the museum is also a paradise for bird watchers. The trees in the museum are home to many species of birds of the region. The museum also attempts to introduce the birds and fish found in this region by way of a small exhibition.
Entry Fee: Rs. 40 per person with guide.
Timings: 8.30 AM to 6 PM
