I did a 3 day tour w/ Highland Eco Tours and overall I thought it was great. Mr. Manh was a fantastic guide who did an excellent job of faciliating interactions w/ local people. The villages we visited together were very interesting, especially the Jarai village. One caveat I will note (hence 4 stars instead of 5) is that the trekking tour I did on day 2 was less successful than the village tours on day 1 and day 3. I have done a lot of trekking in places like Kyrgyzstan and Nepal, and I felt that the trekking in this area was not particularly interesting for me. However, since I enjoyed everything else, including the wonderful homestay with a Bahnar family, I can certainly recommend Mr. Manh and Highland Eco Tours.

Mr Huynh was a delightful guide, coupling intimate knowledge of the hill communities with personal stories from his life in and around Kon Tum. We were able to walk through three villages while he shared insights about daily life and the community. One of the most enjoyable parts of the day was sitting over coffee and discussing his time as a teacher and hearing stories of his life and family. It was a great mix of geography, history, and visiting the local people. As we headed back into town, he showed us some of the areas where US troops were stationed and talked about the war in Kon Tum. As we were young during the war, our interest was not from personal experience but wanting to gain a general understanding of this part of history). Mr Huynh adapted the tour perfectly to our interests and gave us a day of memories. This was the best day of a 3-week trip to the beautiful Vietnamese highlands and we encourage all to slow down and take the time enjoy the custom experience Highland EcoTours provides.

Highlight of Kon Tum was our time with Mr Manh, who customized a tour for us that brought us to learn about the Jarai, Banar, Xo Dang, and Mo Nang ethnic communities in Kon Tum and Mang Den. He was really thoughtful about communication, meals, and transport, and even helped us with getting our bus back to Da Nang. He knows the best local food, and is able to identify all the local plants and crops as well. We’ll always remember fondly his love for kem!

This was a customized 5 days, 4 nights developed by chosing the parts of the tours he offers on the website. Mr. Manh, a very knowledgeable guide, orchestrated this amazing tour.
This was a tour of the areas of Vietnam that we don't think about when we think of a holiday in Vietnam. The tour began in DaLot, continuing through the highlands, and ended in DaNang. The driver, Mr. Tan was excellent. When I was planning the trip, I was concerned about car sickness when going up to the higher altitudes. Mr. Tan drove so smoothly that i had no problem. We visited 10 villages, two museums, and a festival (a bonus!) I am particularly interested in the animism, Mr. Manh was quite informative about the beliefs of the ethnic minorities and spent a lot of time during our trip explaining their beliefs and practices in a very respectful way. I also learned about the agriculture of the areas that we visited, the mountain rice and the wet rice and the cotton tree flower and the cotton pod, the rubber tree. In one of our treks, he showed me how the latex is extracted. I learned about the daily life of the communities by seeing how they live first hand and being further explained by Mr. Manh. I had opportunities to interact with the people in the villages, which i really enjoyed. They were curious about me and I was curious about them. Under the guidance of Mr. Manh, I didn't feel like a voyeur! I had dinner in one of the villages followed by a Gong Show that Mr. Manh arranged for me. I'm vegan, and can't bear MSG. As we passed through villages, the driver took time to find places that would cook a fresh vegan meal for me, with no additives or MSG.
I hope Mr. Manh will add this tour to his offerings. Ask for Queen’s tour. I highly recommend Highland Eco Tours.

I did a 2 day/1 night cultural tour where I biked around the beautiful countryside around Kon Tum and visited interesting, friendly and charming minority tribe villages. I stayed in a lovely homestay in one of the villages and got a delicious and plentiful dinner and breakfast there, as well as another lunch on the road. My guide, Nhi was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Her English is excellent and she speaks several languages of the local tribes as well as Vietnamese. Even when the tour was finishes, the company was very helpful and kind, inviting me to other events in the town and allowing me to use their motorbike. It was an incredible trip and great value for money! The airport in Pleiku is also very nice and small and easy to go through.

I had an amazing 2 day tour with my guide Bom visiting minority villages. It was a top experience in my 2 weeks holiday in Southern Vietnam. Once we left the city of Kontum, we saw zero tourists, but oh so many amazing things. It was local life, but baffling to me. Exactly what I came for.
The manager of Highland Eco Tours, Mr Man, visited me at my hotel the night of my arrival to discuss my wishes : off the beaten track, homestay, see different minority villages. My flight out of Kontum was 3 days later, but Mr Man advised that I would see everything I came for in 2 days.
The first day, Bom and I did a trekking to her home village. She is a farmer's daughter and taught me many interesting things about the crops we saw. She showed me how to pick berries very high up the tree with a stick. She told me about the difficulties of the rain season, eating rats (only the rural ones ! never in the city !), the catholic churches, marriage, orphans... all very interesting. In the evening, I was invited to the family dinner, consisting of what Bom would have cooked if I had not been there. The fish in tomatoes with manioc leaves was delicious. I also tasted the home brewed banana wine. I stayed overnight in a space for tourists attached to her house, a space built with natural products (bamboo, leaves,...). I have slept in 8 different places in Vietnam, and slept the best in Bom's place.
The next day I sat in the back of Bom's scooter and we visited villages of different minorities. Bom told me about the specificities of the different ethnic groups. We walked on the very small paths in the rice paddies and over tiny bridges. We saw the inside of a communal house, a cemetery , children swimming over the river with the cattle, and having fun jumping on and off the animals in the water, ... We had a very cheap, but oh so tasty lunch of spring rolls in the city of Kontum. And Bom recommended another , absolutely excellent place for dinner.
Bom speaks English well and was a great companion. We had lots of fun and I had an incredible local life experience.

I cannot write enough complimentary accounts of our tour of the Central Highlands. My son & I had a 3 day battlefield tour that included visits to mountagnards & local attractions.
I had been searching the internet for a guide or agency to help revisit old battlefields. Online Booking was easy.
We scheduled dates we would be in Kontum during our 3 weeks in Vietnam. Then contacted Eco Tours to confirm dates, price & itinerary. Itinerary was flexible and open to suggestions. We had excellent communication several times even during TET. We were picked up at agreed time & place in Pleiku. Once the tour ended we were delivered to the bus station.
My main objective was revisiting areas where I served in 1967-68, Ban Me Thuot, Pleiku, Kontum, Ben Het, Dak To as well as local villages and places of historical interest. We visited nearly all these places. We heard stories for every place we visited. Our guides knowledge of Vietnam history and battles were fascinating. We visited cemeteries and had tea with the old NVA (Vietnamese) soldiers.
We visited Bill, a Montagnard, who played an electric guitar and sang Hey Jude as well as many other old songs. We beat on the drums, had tea & "snake" juice. We left on top of the world. Also another village and watched them weave cloth.
Based on my experience, I could advise anyone to visit Vietnam, especially this off the beaten track The Central Highlands. It is a beautiful country with friendly people.

I see that most references (but not all) are good, so I am a bit sad to write a rather negative one. I arrived by myself at the office to inform myself about possible tours the coming 1-2 days. I got a not very clear description of 2 possibilities with a drawing on the office-board. No paper information, no price list. I still booked a day tour and was told that it is from 8:30 am to 5/5: 30 pm. He fetched me at my guesthouse by motorbike and we drove . He made different breaks to show something , but I would have liked to have more informations, more explaining and orientation where we'll go next , culture, people, landscape , agriculture... He liked to talk about women and told me that a costumer who asked many questions annoyed him. For lunch he took me to any food place (I would have expected local highland food) and ordered two dishes and the little hike he told me about in this office did never happen. He told me to make 1 hour brake because we were fast. So we had I hour break after lunch and still we was finished with showing around 1,5 hours before the end. I told him to continue with some guiding because so much time was left even with 1 hour siesta-break. So we went to another village where he spoke in local language with the people and I went with the children because he didn't include me or translate their conversation. After all I had the impression that he wanted more driving around a younger tay woman than guiding, explaining ...

Me and my partner went on an overnight trek from Kon Tum. The journey was a bit different than in the description, which said we would go by motorbike to the village Kon Kotu and start walking from there. Actually we started walking from the hotel and spent the morning on the way to the village, about half of that was quite boring walking along the road. In the afternoon we walked a few kilometers onwards, had a lunch on the riverside and then took a 15-20 minutes boatride back to Kon Kotu. The village seemed to be quite a tourist destination, there were a few other trekkers and a bigger tour group. Homestay in which we spent the night was more like a very basic tourist hotel than what I would call a homestay. Our guide was friendly and spoke decent english but didn't help much at making any contact with local people. Picnic lunch was unsatisfying, same with breakfast on the following morning, but the dinner was quite good. For the 24-hour period we were provided merely one liter of drinking water each.

I am planning yo take this tour in March 2018: KT_011B: BATTLEFIELD ĐAKTÔ/ BEN HET/ PLEI KLENG
I read Julie's account of a battlefield tour but not much detail mentioned. Also I see no mention by Trip Advisor on this particular website even tho the website looks genuine. Would appreciate some feedback from Julie and attraction staff.
