We were there in winter. Cold but worth the travel from Pamporovo, and inexpensive taxi ride. Enjoyed every moment.

If you are visiting Blagoevgrad - the Old City Varosha is a must-see with its truly unique atmosphere - old houses, peace and beauty. The church is nested in the midst of this old area of Blagoevgrad and has a truly unique feel about it, not only due to its decoration. The church was built in 1844 by the people of Blagoevgrad themselves. To the left of the entrance is an interesting Circle of Life illustration with astrology symbols, the seasons, etc - worth taking a look at it.

This is a must see in Blagoevgrad, and perhaps even in Southern Bulgaria. Beautiful icons and wall paintings. One feels the sense of the sacred when visiting. The priest and staff are very welcoming and helpful.

I liked it that this church was in the older part of the city. That makes it even more charming. It was beautiful on the inside and outside. All the candles made it very cosy.

Located in the Varosha district in Blagoevgrad (also known as the "Old town"), this is a must see site when in the town, especially if you enjoy architecture and history behind the buildings. This church is a masterpiece from the Bulgarian Revival period with its distinctive facade, woodcarving works of the best masters at that time, amazing frescoes and, of course, the iconic bell tower. It is located within walking distance from the city's center, so be sure to have a look at it.

Very cute area in Blagoevgrad, the Church is really pretty and there are houses around that make a perfect ansamble with it. There is also a garden, very suitable for taking pictures!

A beautiful if not small cathedral in the town of Blagoevgrad. We were fortunate to have witnessed a christening whilst there and the short intimate service was very touching.
Strange custom in that only the parents and a friend attended.
There wee several icons on display and although the decor was dark it was a very lovely place to visit.
The architecture is stunning and a must see if you are in the area.

This small but very pleasant church sits at the centre of Blagoevgrad's attractive Varosha district. The district itself is very small, a few streets either side of the church, but features typical Bulgarian architecture which serves as a very charming contrast to Blagoevgrad's otherwise relentlessly post-Soviet architecture.

The church has architectural similarities to the nearby Rila monastery, which if you're in Blagoevgrad you should really go and see. It has a very calm and shady courtyard with trees which makes for a pleasant respite on hot days.

Apparently an important cultural and religious center for local Bulgarian population before the independence of Bulgaria (back when Blagoevgrad was still known as Cuma-i Bala and was predominantly Turkish, with ethnic Bulgarians settling on the edge of town in Varosha). The church itself isn't big, but has a very authentic feel about it.
