Mount Kazbegi is the third-highest peak in Georgia. With snow capped mountains, forest ranges and lakes make it the most beautiful part of Georgia. The Georgian Military Highway leading to Kazbegi from Tbilisi is itself is a drive which I will never forget. There are many places on the way where one can stop to enjoy the view and take pictures. But on the narrow road, there can be traffic jam, which we faced both ways. There are several accommodation options available if anyone wants to spend more time.

Mount Kazbek is a beautiful mountain in the Caucasus mountains. You can hike up to the church, along the road or through the woods. There are also taxis available. Great views from near the church. There can be a lot of snow until late april, early may, so keep that in mind.

Done summit Kazbek solo in June, 2024. Interesting route, clean camp places and fantastic views. Friendly locals and good, “healthy” spirit accompanied during whole track

It's a frantic drive out of Tbilisi, but were staying half way there. It's a gorgeous place to take photos of. Walking, hiking and skiing all popular sports. It's a must see destination when in Georgia

Even if you are not an enthusiastic hiker, the hike up to Gergeti Trinity church is very nice. It takes about one and a half hour on a mild slope. if you go through the gravel road. If you are in better condition (or younger) you can take a few steeper shortcuts along the way. The view of the church, and mount Kazbek, from the opposite hill is magnificent

It is the third highest mountain in Georgia(5,033m).The summit lies directly to the west of the town of Stepantsminda and is the most prominent geographic feature of the area. Mt. Kazbek is the highest peak of Eastern Georgia. Kazbek is a potentially active volcano.Mount Kazbek is associated in Georgian folklore with Amirani, the Georgian version of Prometheus, who was chained on the mountain in punishment for having stolen fire from the gods and having given it to mortals. The location of his imprisonment later became the site of an Orthodox hermitage located in a cave called “Betlemi” (Bethlehem) at around the 4000 meter level. According to legends, this cave housed many sacred relics, including Abraham's tent and the manger of the infant Jesus.
Just under Mt Kazbegi at an elevation of 2170 meters is situated Gergeti Trinity Church from XIV century. Both, church and Mt Kazbegi creates unforgettable and the most spectacular, romantic view that you can only imagine. Church can be easily reached by 4x4 cars, wouldn't recommend getting there with any other cars especially when is raining or snowing. You may stuck there forever! So be careful.
Use Tsminda Sameba Church where you can set up your tent (2170m) as your base to reach the summit.Under usual summer conditions, the standard glacier gear is enough to handle the climb - crampons, ice axe, rope, harness.A warm, windproof clothes is a must - the mountain is a lone stander and attracts gale winds, which can pull the temperature below -20C, even on a sunny summer day. Trekking poles and ski goggles makes sense to carry.

5037 m tall, Mt. Kazbek really stands out of the surrounding mountains and is always worth a flash card full of photos. It´s nowadays just a day tour from Tbilisi as the Cross Pass road is renovated and its just a 2.5 hours trip. Of course not when you will stop at all the view points along the road. For those who do not want to spend a night or two in Stepantsminda I would advise to start early in Tbilisi, doing the other viewpoints on the way back, because clear view on the summit is mostly in the morning. Hard core photographers fixed on sunrises can leave Tbilisi 3 hours before sunrise and will be back even in breakfast time in their hotel. For those who have more time a stay is recommended as there are a lot of beautiful places to discover.

It is a very beautiful mountain on top of which there is a small church. So spiritual! There are cars that take you on top of the mountain but I’d say it is better to climb it on your own. It’s better to go there in the morning cause it takes a few hours to go up and down the mountain. The view to the small village on top of the mountain and the mountains around are just magnificent.

The kazbeg is a beautiful mountain, with beatiful views.
It may be done in three phases:
1. To the church and view point in one day. The hike to the church takes about 3 hours and is nit worthwhile.can be done with taxi in 30 minutes. The church has an outstanding view. You may continue up through the path to the glacier to the view point which is about an hour or two climb.
2. A 2 day trek that begins the same, but continues to follow the path up to cross the glacier and the end is sleeping in the metteorologic station. It takes between 6-7 hours and is very difficult. Make sure to talk to information in kazbegi before going. You may purchase a map and rent sleeping gear." Note that sleeping in the station costs about 35 GEL, requires a sleeping bag and do not have water service through the night due to the pipes freezing. You may also sleep in a tent. On the second day you travel the same way down. Views are gorgeous of the mountains, glaciers, valleys and rivers along the way.
3- a trek to the actual top of kazbeg. Requires a guide, ice climbing gear and so on. Can also be rented at the information in kazbegi town.
Overall, greatly recommended, make sure to match the hike to your fitness ability.

It was a great drive from Tbilisi to Kazbegi. The route is awesome with valleys on one side. If you love photography then I am sure you will have to stop your vehicle at most of the locations.
We went during end of winter and snow started melting, rivers were flowing.
Eventhough the winter was completed, KAzbegi was full of snow...
Having a cup of Hot Coffee will be awesome

Hi, squadri683. What would you like to know about this attraction?

I would like to travel to Kazbegi from Tbilisi and stay overnight at a hotel. Is there any transportation we can book that will take us to Kazbegi and back to Tbilisi?
Written December 26, 2017
There is a mashrutka (mini bus) which operates daily, costs only GEL10. You can take this public transportation in DIDUBE metro station. You can take the same bus on the way back from kazbegi to tbilisi. Again, depends on how you travel and how many of you in a group or solo traveller.

Hi, i have two options to visit Mt. Kazbek, either early october or early April. Can you recommend which is better to see ice/snow on the mountain? if i do further trek and hike would either month be advisable? thanks
Written August 27, 2017
We went on end of March/ beginning of April. General weather was not so called but in the mountains the weather was cold with snow as well. Snow was somewhat melting in some areas but most of the mountain area were covered by snow. I liked that weather and there were lot of people who were doing hiking that time as well. So I suggest April.

Сколько стоит доехать машиной до Гергети? и где искать водителей?
Written July 9, 2017
Местные на внедорожниках стоят прямо в центре Городка Степанцминда. Их там много. Сколько стоит там под'ем к Гергети не знаю, так как бралиндивидуальный тур в Тбилиси, мне он стоил 80 долларов
