Santa Maria la Mayor is a church located in the old town of Montblanc, a Medieval town in Tarragona Province, in the South of Catalonia. It is in the upper side of the city and it was built in 14th Century in a Gothic-style. When his construction begins, it should be a very big church, but some problems like Black Death or some wars converted the building in a church smallest. Nowadays, the main entrance is located in a sidewall of the original church and the main gate is very ornate. In fact, you can see it, if you walk around of the old town. Pitifully, when we visited the town, the church was closed. Very nice church from outside.

Pretty church which charges only one Euro to enter. Limited info, no audio guides, but if you're there, why not take a look.

Among other nice places of the Cister Route, this church is worth a visit. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, which is something rare, and the Renaissance entrance makes a good contrast with the Gothic style of the building.
Also the outside ground is very cleverly done with tiny white and black stones making a pattern. The whole village is well preserved with an impressive wall that matches the church. If you like medieval tales of princesses and knights that’s a must!

The fachada of the church is nicely detailed, so its,s worth a visit to climb the outside step`s to take a closer look.
The church is quite simply decorated inside, but the height is quite amazing.
If you wish you can pay 2€ to reach the bell tower to see the panoramic view.
There is also a small souvenir shop inside.
This is not a church that has wheelchair access.

Set on a hilltop in the centre of this mediaeval walled town. Carvings on the door facade portray saints. Good fun guessing which statue is whom. The pavement is cobbled in black grey and white pebbles in geometric pattern. Inside is dark and gloomy until shafts of light sparkle through the stained glass. Amazing flying buttresses

It's a beautiful church built in the 14th century. The church square has an interesting patterned cobble stone pavement.

It is a good example of the gothic style in Spain. It is very well conserved and one can go to the top of it to see the old bells and get a view of the city for only 2euros.

This church has a beautiful roof, a new organ in an old housing, and a black madonna inside and some wonderful stone carvings outside. A cool and calm space.

It is a very beautiful, Gothic church, located in the center of Montblanc. Its main façade stands out, and inside it is striking how large and spacious it is, its stained glass windows (beautiful) and a small stone altarpiece from the 16th century.
The entrance fee is very affordable, €1 for general admission and €3 if you want to go up the tower.

This church towers high above this small walled town, a very beautiful sight. It has a beautifully sculpted medieval facade. Church was closed when we were there. Beautiful paved forecourt with high cross.
