You won’t find Zauchensee in the tour brochures but it’s absolutely perfect. About 10 excellent hotels all within walking distance from the lifts or ski in/out from slopes, 2 or 3 apres ski bars with the traditional Austrian themes and a wide variety of slopes and good area across the Ski Amadé region. I’ve been going here for around 10 years and I still enjoy it every time.

Shouldn’t really write a review because I don’t want everyone to know about Zauchensee! What a fantastic place, great people, great ski area. The only slight downside is if you are self catered, the nearest shops are in Altenmarkt down the road but the ski shops do have some basic amenities you can access. Couple of nice places to eat where we had Pizza at the Liftgasthof and lovely Ribs, Tiroler Grostl in the Austrian places in the middle of town. Lots of lovely places to eat on the mountain too and unlike France, they don’t rip your eyes out. Will I be back, oh yes.

We wanted to ski for a day and weren’t really sure where we were going or how to get there but this place was great. Long slopes with great snow and different levels of challenges, short or no queues, fast lifts! We were very happy with this place!

Skiholiday in Zauchsensee. This small village at the very end of the road, in the valley at 1350 above sealevel. Beatiful slopes in all directions, mostly red slopes. But theres always a blue connection IF you don't like The red ones.

Considering it was the end of the season the skiing here was good. It isn't the most rustic, traditional ski resort in Austria but we had a good weeks skiing. We particularly enjoyed using the SkiLine website to see how we did on slaloms and races as well as using various photo points around the resorts. The World Cup Run was good however there wasn't as much off piste opportunities as I had hoped for.
