Such a perfect day

Up by train from Freshwater, down with the skyrail to Smithfield. A gondola can take up to six persons. Two stops on the way down. Just a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours.

We actually went Freshwater Railway station and travelled to Kuranda by train where we court the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway back down to Smithfield. Our first stop was Barron Falls Station where you can take a break to see the falls and the gorge where you can not only see the beautiful falls but also visit the interpretation centre that informs... This is the best way to get a view over the stunning rain forest, I'm actually very scared of heights, so they let us have our own cable car, I felt totally safe and enjoyed the experience

How wonderful it felt to be high up in the air brushing the trees on the way down from Kuranda - it really was a way to feel like you were part of the rainforest. The views were epic and the boardwalk stop was a pleasant wander too.

We drove to sky rail .bought the return ticket because scenic railway off due to flooding. Fortunately the weather cleared a bit to get some decent views. Off to see Barron Falls. They were powerfully spectacular. Did another guided boardwalk - informative. Due to time we were given to get the return cable car we did not have enough time... More

We travelled to Kuranda by the scenic railway and returned using the skyrail. It was fabulous. There are two stops en route, one where you can get off and have a look at the views and the second where you move to another section of the sky rail (just a five metre walk). Alternatively one can explore on a three... More

Enjoyed the Skyrail! My husband, teenager and I loved the scenery but thought it was a little pricey. Make sure to get off both stops to take photos. The second stop has a walking path so that you can view the beautiful Barron Falls! When you get to the last stop, you can take a free motor coach to the... More

Obviously, if you only have one day in Cairns you have to go out and see the reef. But if you're here for two days you must take the Sky Rail. The views are breathtaking. You cross a spectacular river, see waterfalls, and float right about the tree line. Plus you can hear the sounds of the rainforest. There are... More

You can take the railroad train one way and the cable cars the other way. However, after reading some Trip Advisor reviews, we decided to ride the cable cars both ways - and we are glad we did. We were to get off at two stops - to walk around and look at the exhibits. The rain forests is truly... More
