A great experience & so much fun. Although expensive we opted for diamond class/skip the ques & there big, plus glass bottom cable car for extra viewing. Fantastic views with 2 stops on the way for photo op.
Hi Samrox5, Greetings from the ancient rainforest. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your immersive tropical rainforest experience with us. Diamond View, glass floor gondola, is an exclusive upgrade with only one in ten gondolas having this feature, providing guests with unimpeded views of the canopy below. Diamond View gondolas arrive into the terminals on average every 7 minutes with a sperate boarding queue. It is good to hear you took the opportunity to stop and explore at the forest floor or red Peak and Barron Falls to discover more of this ancient landscape. We look forward to welcoming you back again one day in the future. Regards, Rebecca

    Ancient Daintree by Sky!
A lovely and relaxed way to see the ancient Daintree! Our family travelled both ways on the Skyrail and it was great. Just more relaxed than the train. I used the Skyrail App to listen to the commentary on the way there and it was informative and alerted you to points if interest whilst not being overly intrusive with constant chatter. In the way back we just took in the splendour of the views. Several stops allow you to disembark, stretch your legs and enjoy a short boardwalk walk suitable for most ages and fitness. The Barron Falls were a highlight!
Hi Zany74, Greetings from the ancient rainforest! We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your return ancient rainforest experience with us, gliding smoothly just metres above the Wet Tropics World Heritage area before descending to discover more at the forest floor of Red Peak and Barron Falls. Thank you for the mention of our Skyrail Audio Guide & Interpretive App which provides guests with in-gondola commentary, Augmented Reality, Trip Map and more! Come fly with me
We went Diamond View and so worth it as too is downloading the Skyrail app for the commentary. The ride was awe inspiring as you get such a great view of Gods handiwork. You so gently glide over the tops of the vegetation you feel like you could just reach out and touch it. A special shout out to Chantel at the Red Peak station. (The cable cars stop twice once at Barron falls and once at red peak highly recommend getting off and checking these stations, there sights and information) Chantel was terrific she took us on a ranger guided talk and was so friendly and informative. Coming to Cairns you must ride the cable cars
Hi Mike, Greetings from the ancient rainforest! We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your ancient rainforest experience with us and took the opportunity to upgrade to Diamond View, glass floor gondola, for unimpeded views into the deep green canopy below. We will pass you kind comments onto Chanel and our Environment Manger who I am sure will be very pleased with your feedback. A fun ride and good way to see the rainforest!
The staff at the Skyrail was great, especially Marcus. He was energetic and friendly and engaged with everyone. Beware if you book through a 3rd party as there was a bit of a mix up with our arrival time. We did the train up and the Skyrail down. Honestly the views from the skyrail were better than the train and it was faster too. Give yourself enough time up in Kuranda to Eat, Shop, and see a couple of the attractions.
Hi Flyer61375224421, Greetings from the ancient rainforest. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your ancient rainforest experience with us, and we do apologise once again for the inconvenience with your third party booking details. We pride ourselves on delivering an enjoyable and memorable experience for all our guests. Skyrail and the Kuranda Scenic Railway is one of our most popular booked packages available on our official website and provides guests with two different perspectives of the Wet Tropics World Heritage area. Thank you for the mention of our team member, Marcus and his friendly engaging demeanour. We will pass your kind comments onto Marcus and our Reservations Manager. Stunning views
A must do in Cairns. A great way to see the view of the canopy and see uninterrupted views of the rainforest out to the ocean. It stops in the rainforest and also at the waterfalls. It finishes at the Kuranda township which has opportunities for walks, shopping and food. Great views and a relaxing way to see the region without anything in the way.

    Incredible experience
This was one of my favourite experiences while staying at Cairns. We took the train up and the Skyrail back. The views were sensational and it was quiet so we had a carriage to ourselves. We got off at both stops and wandered. This is definitely recommended. It was interesting and beautiful views. Staff were nice and helpful and the bus to take us back to Cairns was easy to find and comfortable. Great day out.

    They don’t take cash 😢
So very disappointed in this… the experience was fine, but the fact that they are no longer taking cash is disappointing and so wrong. I questioned why we could not use cash and the operator explained that all registers were removed after covid and it was too hard to go to the bank due to the daily turn over being so high. Cash is legal tender… if we don’t use it, we are losing it! 😓
Hi Angela, Greetings from the ancient rainforest. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your ancient rainforest experience with us, gliding smoothly in your gondola just metres above the canopy, before descending to discover more at Red Peak and Barron Falls. Skyrail Rainforest Cableway has been a card only experience since 2020. We have this information stated clearly on our official website, included in our booking confirmations, at all point of sale locations throughout our gift shop and Canopy Café as well as at ticketing locations at Smithfield and Kuranda. We are sorry to hear this impacted your ancient rainforest experience. Thank you for your feedback. Regards, Rebecca

    Well worth the Skyrail experience.
Skyrail itself is just fabulous. Very well run. Scenery is absolutely the best. Unfortunately, yesterday when my friend and I went on it, one of the staff on the first stop, Darryl, was extremely rude to my friend who has severe hearing problems due to cancer of one ear canal. He asked us to turn left to get to the cars on the other side and my friend didn't hear him correctly, so asked him to repeat. He said " You obviously don't know how to follow instructions. I have told you twice now". I went to say something but my friend stopped me. Unfortunately, this upset my friend, so our time at Kuranda was clouded by this incident.
Hi Liz, Greetings from the ancient rainforest. Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback of your experience. We are pleased to hear you found your ancient rainforest experience to be fabulous, and enjoyed the scenery whilst gliding smoothly in your gondola just metres above the canopy. We pride ourselves on delivering a memorable and enjoyable experience for all to enjoy. Please be assured that your feedback has been forwarded to our Operations Manger and Supervisors for review. Cable car ride is the best part, could give or take Kuranda.
This was a pretty interesting and unique experience. The two stops along the way are definitely worth exploring, especially the Red Peak portion with a tour with one of the rangers. I don't know the guy's name, but he had loads of interesting facts about the area and was engaging. The display area of information about the region is very interesting too. Barron Falls was less interesting for me, mostly because there was minimal water flowing down the waterfall. Not a bad thing though, the rains hadn't started yet, and the view was pretty great. The cable-car ride itself is the best part of the experience. I wasn't too impressed with the village Kuranda itself. Pleasant enough to walk around, but it isn't much more than tourist shops. Having said that if you're on the lookout for tourist merchandise there's probably fewer better places to find a range of items.
Hi Mogadoh, Greetings from the ancient rainforest! We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your experience with us, gliding smoothly just metres above the rainforest canopy before descending to discover more at the forest floor f Red Peak and Barron Falls. Our Rangers are the storytellers of this ancient landscape and share there knowledge of the Wet Tropics World Heritage area with guests as they meander the boardwalks together. The Discovery Zone depicts this little pocket of ancient rainforest's survival through evolution. The Edge Lookout provides guests with panoramic views of Din Din (Barron Falls) and the deep gorge below which after a little refreshing summer rain puts on the most spectacular show and loud roar of the water thundering over the rockface. There is so much to discover in Kuranda, village in the rainforest such as the Original Markets, Heritage Markets, Butterfly Sanctuary, Birdworld, Rainforestation Nature Park, restaurants & Cafés and short rainforest walks. We look forward to welcoming you back again one day in the future to explore the ancient rainforest with us again. Regards, Rebecca

We arrived at the Skyrail near the train station, in Kuranda, on time for our 1.30 departure and were told that they had suspended the Sky rail due to lightening and we waited in the Skyrail building for an hour and a half before we could board. The scenery along the 1.5hr journey was pretty much the same up to ¾’s of the way along until we came down the mountain on the Cairns township side. Not enough information is provided in their brochures or website telling us that when we got off the Skyrail we would be picked up by a bus that would take us back to Cairns Central Shopping Centre. We were dropped off on the opposite side of the Shopping Centre to where we parked our car near the Kuranda Scenic Railway station at 8.00am that morning. Not being a local we had to navigate through this large shopping centre and find our car in the large carpark. These problems made it difficult for me and my 88 year old mother that was with me. Cost for Adults $50 one way. Last year we went to Whistler in Canada and had 3 cable car rides over the mountains for a total of $36 per adult.

Hi there, We are sorry to hear we did not meet your expectations on this occasion. As you have mentioned, in adverse weather conditions it can be deemed necessary to pause operations until it is considered safe to operate again. Unfortunately, this can mean that our guests become delayed. The safety and comfort of our guests is the utmost importance at Skyrail; therefore, we must take all precautions necessary. It is unfortunate that you did not receive the necessary information surrounding our transfer service, however your feedback on this subject will passed on to the relevant department to further improve communication around this matter. Our coach drivers are licensed to drop Skyrail passengers off to the safest point possible. In this case, our drivers must drop passengers off at the bus stop outside of Cairns Central shopping centre, as this allows for coaches of all sizes to park safely. We thank you for your review and feedback, as this assists us in improving our procedures to further enhance our customers’ experience. Kind Regards, Monika.

A mixed review..
Whilst we really enjoyed the actual skyrail experience, we had issues in Kuranda.

Originally I had booked 3 people one way as we had planned to either take our time in Kuranda or just spend a short time there then catch an uber back to save time...

But because we loved the skyrail, I was willing to pay for a return fare back.
Yet because it was around 15-20min after their so-called booking system closed, they wouldn't let us book tickets.

Instead, we were left stranded in Kuranda, which was basically a ghost town on a Sunday!

Plenty of staff exiting the carpark and not one asked if we were ok getting back.

No uber drivers were available and Cairns taxi doesn't go to Kuranda but luckily made an exception or we would have been stranded all night!

We had to wait 45mins for the taxi, so it was a total waste of a day, all because staff wouldn't book us a ticket or just let us ride back (of which I would have happily paid the next day).

Greetings from the ancient rainforest, Thank you for your review and feedback. We are sorry to hear that your expectations were not met when you re-visited Kuranda to book a return journey. There are many factors that can affect the possibility of guests travelling after our last boarding time, including staff having already left the mid stations, and gondolas being cycled off at the Terminals. Due to this, we are unable to allow guests to travel after a certain time. We are sorry to hear of your long wait in Kuranda. Generally we do like to make guests aware that are travelling one way on Skyrail that they may experience difficulty in ordering an Uber or taxi from Kuranda, however we will be taking on your feedback to ensure this information is clear and is passed on to all future guests booking a one way experience. Thank you again and we do hope that you enjoy the remainder of your time in Tropical North Queensland. Kindest Regards, Monika

This was one of the best things I have ever done. We travelled both ways via the cable car as the train was booked out, but the views were incredible. I'd definitely recommend taking a diamond view car (clear glass panel in the floor) as it gives a beautiful view into the foliage. Ulysses butterflies flashed by in a spark of blue, and the Barron Falls were breathtaking.
The lookouts and walkways at each stop are beautifully managed too, with clear guidance and information.
Definitely worth the money and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Skyrail Rainforest Gondola- A Charming Experience

Performed and enjoyed the travel on 27 December 2019. Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is a 7.5 km scenic cableway. It runs above the Barron Gorge National Park. This is in World Heritage Area on the north of Cairns in Queensland.
The journey by the Sky Rail shall be in my everlasting memory.
It was the longest gondola cableway in the world when it was completed in 1995.
The cableway has been constructed between Smithfield and Kuranda. The cableway includes six-person gondola cabins that float metres above the treetops.
A one-way trip above takes about one hour thirty minutes. There are two rainforest stations, Red Peak and Barron Falls. These stations allow exploration of the forest floor on boardwalks and education of the World Heritage area. Prior to construction, the site was surveyed to ensure preservation of rare species. The top soil and leaf litter were collected and reintroduced when construction was complete.
Utmost care was taken to protect all natural things. Plant seedlings were removed during construction and were replanted in their original locations.
The Sky Rail in 1996 Australian Federation of Travel Agents Awards for Excellence in the category "Best Resort or Tourist Attraction" Far North Queensland.
The Sky Rail bagged in 1999 Wet Tropics Management Authority Cassowary Culture Award.
In 2009 as part of the Q150 celebrations, the Skyrail Rainforest Cable was announced as one of the ‘Q150 Icons of Queensland’ for its role as a "structure and engineering accomplishment.
We went to the terminal station by Gondola. After taking tea, snacks and minimal shopping our tour manager called us and informed that bus arrived there. So we returned by Bus.
Apart from me and my wife, in our Gondola Cabin 4 more persons were there. One them was staying on the terminal station.
I collected many information but I could remember and write only few in my tour diary/chronicle.
This Sky Rail journey shall remain in me everlasting memory.
I have some photos to convey the beauty and glamour of the journey

We certainly enjoyed the skyrail ride above the trees, looking down and across the magnificent treetops, home to the world's oldest tropical rainforest. The car appears to hold 2-6 people, but the two of us had the car to ourselves; the car is completely enclosed, very safe, very secure, but continually moving except for the slowdowns/ stops to exit (you are not rushed, it's very comfortable and safe). There are two short stops along the skyrail ride to to Kuranda. Well, the entire reason for the five stars, was not only the beauty of the ride, but the joyous welcome at each stop from the happiest, most gracious staff of any tourist stop, ever. The final stop is a small town, Kuranda, fun to walk around for maybe an hour (not much there). Happy Days to your staff!

The sky rail soars above the tree tops and even into the clouds at times. We took the sky rail from Kuranda back down to Smithfield. It is an amazing way to see the rainforest. There is an app you can download now to listen to as you go down. We listened to it for a little bit but found we preferred the sound of the rainforest. It's a handy thing to have though.
We went on the sky rail on New Year's Eve and there was rain and storms around. We had to sit and wait in the terminal for 50 minutes before they felt safe to let us go again. During this time the staff were very good in coming around and informing us of what was happening and how things were going with the storm. I found most people were happy to sit and wait and we all ended up sitting on the floor together and waiting quietly and nicely. Thanks to the General Manager who was out there telling us what was happening. It certainly helped.
Overall the sky rail is an unique and interesting experience.

We did the combo ticket where you take the train to Kuranda and then the Skyrail back.
Well worth the cost, it's a fantastic trip flying over the tops of the trees and seeing the rain-forest from a totally different perspective. The stop at he station on the way gives you a good chance to get out and have a walk around and see Barron Falls from a different side than the train on the way up.

Rode a bicycle there from Cairns by accident. We wanted to go karting.
We were hot, sweaty and needed a break. We decided to catch the cable car both ways as we missed the train up. Skyrail turned out to be a great decision. It seemed expensive at the ticket desk but in hindsight it was a big ride that takes at least 25 mins and 3 car changes to get to Kuranda, so cost is about right for how expensive it would be to run.
The look around at each stop was great. The waterfall was in full flight during heavy previous rain. Very powerful and awesome to see. We only had 30 mins before the last ride back, so only got takeaway food from a cafe and a very quick look at Kuranda.
We would do the train one way, cable car one way next time for the experience.
Definitely recommend doing it at least once.

Hi Daz, Thank you for visiting Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and recommending us. It is fantastic to hear you enjoyed your ‘accidental great experience’ and we are glad you had time to explore the two stations, Red Peak and Barron Falls where our rangers provide complimentary guided tours - We recommend allowing 90 minutes for a one way experience. Yes, We agree! The Barron Falls are awesome after the rain. We look forward to welcoming you back to #TheAncientRainforest sometime in the future! Regards Rebecca

I’m a local and decided to do the Skyrail again recently (it was my 4th time). It’s still a fantastic attraction and the experience of seeing heritage listed rainforest as you glide above the canopy is impossible to beat. The new Edge skywalk is the only thing that has changed (glass boardwalk at Barron Falls station) and it was underwhelming to be honest. But I had a wonderful day floating over the treetops and enjoying the perfect views out to Cairns & Barron Falls from my gondola. If you can I recommend stopping and reading all the interpretive signage & wet tropics information on display as it is truly fascinating. This time I did the Riverboat cruise in Kuranda and enjoyed lunch and a cuppa at Riley’s Cafe on Coondoo St.

Greetings from the ancient rainforest, Thank you for sharing your review of Skyrail. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your 4th time experiencing the Wet Tropics rainforest, including the scenic views of Barron Gorge National Park, Barron Falls, the Cairns region, the Coral Sea and the tropical rainforest canopy. As you have mentioned, the Skyrail experience includes two stops at Red Peak and Barron Falls. It is highly recommended to all guests to stop and spend at least 20 minutes at each point, to learn and discover the history of the rainforest, as well as to learn about the flora and fauna that lives here. We offer various educational aspects, including the complimentary ranger guided tour, Rainforest Discovery Zone and numerous interpretive signage. Thank you for visiting the ancient rainforest and we hope to see you again one day in the future! Kindest Regards, Monika #TheAncientRainforest

Well I'm scared stiff of heights and this trip was no exception to that. However the day we travelled was a lovely day with no wind so the ride down from Kuranda quite smooth. The views of the beautiful rainforest were stunning. My husband enjoyed the scenery more than I as he looked around, where had a fixed view (too scared to look down). The story of how the skyrail was built is awesome and should be congratulated (watch on the skyrail website). We would recommend to anyone not scared of heights and those who may be scared of heights who can manage their fear. My husband would do this again without hesitation. I wouldn't but only due to fear.
