Great walk that improves each time we visit.

We enjoyed our afternoon at Wattana Wetlands till the sun went down. We enjoyed the wetlands with bird watching areas and plenty of birdlife photography on the lakes, oh and some turtles and frogs:O)

Saw lots of 'new' birds, great board walks. Maps and directions could be clearer. Warnings for green ants at bird hides are needed.

the mosquitos were so bad that we had to run back to the car. one of my kids and i are terribly attractive to mosquitos. if not for that, i think it would be a great place. we did have long pants and repellant but were covered in mosquitos - i’ve never seen anything like it. i cannot even describe... This Wetland near Smithfield and James Cook University is readily accessed by TRANSlink public bus from Cairns (routes 111 and 112), with a 400 metre walk at the end due to there not being a bus stop outside the reserve entrance. But the driver may drop you there on the way there at least. The wetland has a system of... More

We have visited several times in recent years and it keeps improving as the vegetation develops and the hides improve. What you see will depend on the time of day and time of year but there is a large range of birdlife that visits/inhabits the areas. Probably best to visit in the early morning or late afternoon.

Visited Cattana wetlands today , and it was amazing. From the recent rains Cairns has had the place is green with flowing creeks. Best time to visit is in the morning where you will see an abundance of birdlife and turtles. One word of advice though take mosquito repellent !

I probably picked the wrong time of day, around 2pm, and it was really hot. There was one other car and I was a lone female traveller, so at first I felt a little uncomfortable, but after a while, I started to relax. The rainforest boardwalk walk is very nice, and the hike around the lakes is nice too, with... More
