This is the must see place if you are visiting Vellore. The fort has historic significance and you can easily spend couple of hours here. There is a temple in the fort complex. A stroll along the boundary give a good overview of the premises and you can also see the huge moat surrounding the fort.

Superb fort with controllable bridges and a very wide moat a very high degree of safety from invaders. A part of the fort is not accessible since it has a high security prison on that area. That some of the LTTE prisoners could still escape from this prison is sort of a modern day folklore in TN. A must visit... More

Very important place from Indian History perspective since the first revolt against british rule started in this very fort during the year 1806. Indian sepoys killed more than 100 british soldiers took control of the fort for one day. All the sepoys were killed and british took control of the fort the very next day. Best time to visit Vellore Fort is July to January. Please see the attached photos to form your opinion on fort. I visited Vellore Fort in February, so it was hot & very less green. Do not miss this great fort and it is with Jalahandeswara Temple, Mosque and Church inside the fort premises separately. The fort is surrounded with water and it is in the middle of Vellore city.
