I started with my friend from Chennai on a 2 wheeler at around 5.30 am and reached around 8.30 a.m with a couple of breaks for tea and breakfast. Roads are good with minor bad patches on NH48 for a small stretch The fort wall encircles a small town that has quarters, playing grounds, temple, church, museum etc. If you... More

Such a historical marvel But poorly maintaned and has turned into a proper dating site for young couples!! No details of any historical event anywhere is very sad. Do visit it for its grandeur! A walk on the fort reminiscing the mood back during its glory days is wonderful.

The fort is well preserved and maintained by ASI. The fort is surrounded by water on one side and the other by land. It houses a temple, church and a mosque. There is also a museum. It has a rich history, the first significant military rebellion against British rule erupted at this fort in 1806. The fort has been used/captured... More

The fort houses a temple, a mosque and a church, the renowned Vellore Christian Hospital, and many other buildings that are now used as public offices. The Jalagandeeswarar Temple, dedicated to Jalagandeeswar, is noted for its sculptures, and speaks volumes of the exquisite craftsmanship of the highly skilled artisans of that period. The sculpture in the porch on the left... More

The Vellore fort is an archaeological structure which reminds us the grandeur of the past. The outside of the fort is well preserved. A nostalgic visit for tourists interested in history.

The rampart walls and moat are impressive and the size of the property is amazing. However, if you are used to detailed history and interpretation, you will be disappointed. Gazing at the massive and well preserved walls left me wanting to know much more about what daily life in and around the fort must have been like through history. The... More

It was rapid though journey way back in future to see a ground fort withall surrounding water which was quite deep. Fort walls are still standing with elegant and stood true to test of time. I saw its pic in my hotel room which tempted me to place within busy city area. It's really nice to see marvel of architecture.

The fort was built by Vijayanagar kings, once rules by Marathas as well, in the end it was taken over by britishers. A good spot to visit if your in vellore. It is easily accessible as it is located in the heart of the city.
