I heard so much about the temple and took a taxi from kanchi where I have gone to visit On reaching the temple the first thing that struck is the temple is not visible from outside and the elaborate security, both understandable since the temple itself is covered with gold.,The path leading to the sanctum sanctorum itself has a roof... The distance from Chennai to Vellore is around 165 kms and from Kanchipuram to Vellore is approx.. 80 kms. You can visit this golden temple during day time but the best time would be during the evening as the place is lit with lights and the golden temple glows under the lights. The timing is from 8 am to 8 pm.... Very near to vellore. Only ~12-13 km from the city. Good parking arrangement. Better to keep your belongings in your car as no mobile, no camera, no bags are allowed inside. Try to avoid day time as it is getting hot. Evening is the best time to visit.
