We, a family of 3, had a Walking safari with Said from Lushoto through the Usambara mountains to Mambo. We found Said to be very attentive to his surroundings seeming animals, and was able to answer more or less every question we had about culture, geography, religion, farming, schools, history, fauna and flora. The itinerary was pretty much perfect taking us through a varied landscape, from fertile farmland to rainforest, sleeping at places as diverse as a home stay with African cooking class to a nunnery. Meeting a lot of local africans and ending at Mambo with a faraway view of Kilimanjaro. I will highly recommend talking a walking safari with Said through the Usambara, it was one of the absolute highlights of our 3 month trip.

We did a 3 day, 2 night Usambara trek with Said, hiking from Lushoto to Mambo with lots of beautiful stops in between, about 20km each day. We are so glad we did the trek-we got to see a part of Tanzania we never would have seen otherwise, and Said is an incredibly knowledgeable guide and was happy to answer our (many) questions about the past and present of the Usambara region. Said was easy to communicate with prior to the trip, and was constantly making sure we were having a good time. He was also very flexible, making sure to keep us out of the rain (we didn’t have the gear for the unexpectedly prolonged rainy season) and had us hike farther than planned once he got a sense for our pace. The views during this trek were indescribable, but Said also makes sure to spend time walking through the villages and farms so you also get a sense for the way people live. Accommodation at Bush Baby Homestay and Mgumbe cottages (with incredible view) were great, with hearty homecooked meals. We very highly recommend doing an Usambara hike with Said!

Wow! It is almost hard to know what to write that has not already been mentioned many times over. Said is a wonderful guide and anyone reading even a handful of reviews below can probably tell right away how consistently happy the guests were. He is also just a great person to spend a few days with even if there wasn't much to see (except there is!) - he's extremely kind, open and knowledgeable.
Something that really sets talented professionals like Said apart is that they make complicated things look easy. Bringing outsiders through a small community could potentially be very disruptive and ruin the essence of what you are trying to visit. It is a real testament to Said's care and hard work that everyone seems at ease when we pass by (and we, in turn, also feel more comfortable). As much as we felt catered to on our trek, you get a real sense of how much care Said takes in building relationships with the people of this area. He talks with nearly everyone we pass and sometimes we stop for a minute as they catch up or other times someone will fall in step with us to chat with Said as we walk. I have hiked in other countries with local guides, and I have never had the experience of sharing the unguarded company of locals going about their day. I only wish I had learned more Kiswahili to be able to express my gratitude.
In short, Said performs some kind of magic where you can simultaneously feel comfortable that everything (route, food, accommodations) is well established from decades of professional experience and yet also like a friend is showing you the secret back road no one knows about.

We had the pleasure to engage in a 3-day hike with Usambara adventures.
It was very easygoing and flexible when booking and helping out with logistics. Said was perfectly well understanding what we needed.
After meeting up at mambo viewpoint we spent our days hiking around beautiful rocks, stunning vistas, through lush farmlands and entering villages engaging with the locals. The team of 2 guides were very knowledgeable about the region. Everything from culture/traditions, through native plants and local cultivation. Super interesting for nerds like us!
We had chosen a slightly more intense itinerary with more vertical meters and that was exactly what we needed. Of course it is possible with other arrangements also.
The accommodations were cool, first night at a convent with the sisters being very friendly and the food amazing. The place had a serene vibe. The other place was a home stay where we got to try the local cuisine and enjoy the beautiful views.
All in all very well arranged, beautiful surroundings, knowledgeable chats and amazing climate.

We did a 3 day hike with Usambara adventures and it was fantastic. Before booking Said (our guide) put together an itinerary based the distance we wanted to walk each day. He then arrange every last detail (food, accommodation, route) and it was all amazing. The Usambara mountains are beautiful and the people are very friendly. My top recommendation for what to do in Tanzania, and a reason to visit Tanzania in itself. Not only was Said an great guide, he's a pretty cool dude, the trip is worth it just to talk to him for a bit. Said also adapted the trip because we were sick on the first day and helped us book transport back to Dar es salaam.

We (a group of 2 young couples) went for a 2 days hike in west Usambara mountains with Said and Amiss. Our experience was AMAZING ! If you consider to go there, please do not hesitate to choose this team. They know everything about these mountains and they want to share it with you. They will take good care of you and fit to your needs. As they are locals, you will benefit from their knowledge, contacts and prices.
We finished our trip in Mambo and Said took us to one of the most beautiful place we’ve ever sleep in our life. Thanks again !

Had an absolutely brilliant time doing this hike with Said, cannot recommend him highly enough. I hiked for about 5 days with him, through villages, farms, forests and mountain ridges, and it was a fantastic experience. Said was very accommodating and changed the route to cover more distance when I told him I liked walking and also changed to travel through more forest when I told him I enjoyed the forest more than the villages. He was also genuinely interested in talking to me and was a pleasure to spend the 5 days with.
If you have never seen typical African villages, this is an absolutely essential experience if you are coming to Tanzania, and it is also very interesting to see the farming practises and how people live high up in the mountains, in this strange tropical environment. The areas where the forest is still pristine were absolutely stunning and I saw colobus monkeys and lots of chameleons. The amount of deforestation done by the Germans is quite sad, but the government seems to be regrowing parts of the forest, and I think it is important for visitors to see that no place is without its problems. The views from Mambo View Point were incredible too, the plains seem to go on forever into southern Kenya and Kilimanjaro was also visible in the distance when I was there.
Also, Said's English is perfect but he was also willing to let me practise speaking Swahili with him too, which I enjoyed.

We had an amazing time together with Said in the Usambara Mountains. We did a 3-Day-Hike through really beautiful landscapes and villages with fascinating views. Said is really experienced, he knows beautiful small paths and can explain you a lot about the nature and culture. We had nice lunches and the accomodation was really well chosen, with nice meals and rooms. We felt really comfortable hiking with him and we would definitely do it again. It was a unique experience, we would absoulutely recommend doing it with Said!

Me and my girlfriend had a wonderful time in the Usambara mountains. Our Guide, Hassan, was a great guide and companion. Not only was he very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the region, he also helped us in numerous other ways, like picking us up from the bus station on arrival, sorting out a reasonable accomodation in Lushoto and teaching us Swahili language and culture. The region is beautiful and a the climate was perfect for hiking. Overall I can whole heartedly recommend this as part if your Tanzania itinerary in a touristically less overran region.

A group of us went on a four-day treck of the Usambara mountains with Said, who runs Usambara Adventures, and had an incredible experience. It was a great way to explore some more remote areas of Tanzania and go off the beaten path. We walked through farming villages, ate picnics on the hills with gorgeous views, and stayed in good accommodation each night. Said was very experienced, knowledgeable and kind. When one of our friends got sick he cared for him well and organized transportation for him to meet us at our next accommodation. The bus from Moshi is an easy way to get to Lushoto, where you can stay for the night before starting the hike the next day. I 100% recommend this trip with Said and look forward to going again!
