We did a 3-day hiking trip in the Usumbara Mountains with Anthony. The experience was amazing. Anthony is a very good guide, he knows a lot about the wildlife, the environment, and local culture in the Usumbara Mountains. Also he is a very nice man. We walked through beautiful forests, we saw many animals (a.o. monkeys, chameleons), and had amazing views during the hike. We hiked about 6-8 hrs per day, doing 15-20 km a day. In total we did 50 kms. We slept in beautifully situated locations: a nons convents in the forest where we had delicious food and were welcomed with much warmth, and a mountaintop hotel with amazing views. It's a very local experience and we saw how well the money was spent on local initiatives. We highly recommend this trip!

Chris took us on a one day hike of the Usamburu rainforest outside Lushoto. He was great with our kids, who really wanted to find a chameleon. Known as ‘Chameleon Chris’, he did not disappoint, finding one straight away in the garden of our lodge, when he visited to plan our trip. On the day of the hike he turned up on time with all of the correct equipment. He was extremely knowledgeable in all areas, from names and origins of tree and plants, to the politics and history of the region, country and continent of Africa. Conversation was excellent with high levels of English. Chris was great with our kids (8 and 6), looking after them and finding them 5 chameleons on the hike. It did rain heavily on our hike and Chris knew the paths so well he could easily show flexibility to find a shorter route out of the Forrest and back to the car. Overall, highly recommended company and guide.

We had a wonderful trip walking from lushoto to mambo with the help of a guide named Anthony. Anthony was full of information about local nature and culture. A highlight was staying in a convent one night. This tour was a highlight of our holiday in Tanzania and I would recommend it! Cheers, Meghan & Tom from Melbourne, Australia :)

We traveled all the way from Kenya to hike in the Usambara mountains. We got in touch with Chris, who was to be our guide there. His price of 70 USD was slightly more than others, but we chose him, since he gave us all the details. Though we did not have a phone in Tanzania, Chris connected to some local bus drivers and got in touch with us. We reached Lushoto quite late, and Chris picked us up from the bus station. The hike on the first day was great, through the Magamba forest reserve. We traveled some distance by bus to a convent in Rangwi, where we stayed. The food here was good, but the place of stay was average. However, we wanted to hike in more dense forests (since we had done hikes similar to Magamba earlier), which we asked Chris about. He was very considerate, and changed the next day's plan to go into the Shagayu forest taking his friend's help. So, we could actually hike through dense tropical forests, which we really wanted, and for which, we had traveled all the way to Tanzania. The place we stayed at (Mambo viewpoint), was amazing. It was very comfortable, but we could not enjoy the view too well because of the weather. It was comfortable to work with Chris and he respected what we wanted to see and made an effort to give us exactly that experience. Usambara mountains have different kinds of trails and a lot to see, so be clear about what you are interested in, if you have specific interests. This makes it easier for the organizer too I guess. Overall, it was an amazing experience in the tropical forests in the Usambara mountains!
