My wife and I had just returned from Kashgar after spending 6 tiring but wonderful days there. On the first day we bumped into Paty ( Old Road Tours) while he was guiding another couple at Id Kah mosque. We were immediately impressed with his spoken English and decided to engaged him for our tour to Tashkorgan and Shipton Arch. Paty is only 27 years old but he is fun, engaging and is really a spirited guy. And he speaks good German too. During my time with him I noticed that he offers you friendship instead of just being a guide. The Uighurs as a whole are honest and kind hearted people. Spent some time with him and you will see the representation of a true Uighur.

We are a group of tourists from Singapore and Malaysia and we visited Kashgar in late April.

We were greeted by Mr. Patty and his driver, Mr. Ali at the airport and they made us feel very safe and comfortable throughout the journey. Mr. Patty is a very knowledgeable and friendly young man, he speaks great English (and German too)! He is very professional and our comfort was his top priority (he also jokes and shares with us a lot of local stories). Mr. Ali speaks good English too and he is a very good driver (safe and steady driving).

We visited Kashgar city (Idka Mosque, Apa Hoja Tomb, Sunday market, Old town), then drove to Tashkurgan and spent a night before returning to Kashgar city. Amazing sights, friendly people, great food and unforgettable lifetime experience. Mr. Patty gave us a lot of recommendation on food and souvenirs at a very reasonable price.

Later, we also learnt that his company (Mr. Patty and his brother Mr. Abdul Wahab) provides tour services throughout Xinjiang and even hiking/customised tours (as stated on their website)! We were amazed by how passionate and genuine they are in sharing the local information about the Uyghur culture (food, language etc.) on their website! Not to mention, the prices are reasonable and we will definitely consider their service in the near future.

We highly recommend Mr. Patty and his brother Mr. Abdul Wahab from Oldroadtours for anyone who wants to experience the authentic and beautiful culture of Uyghurs peole. Mr. Patty is truly an honest and humble friend that one should meet in Xinjiang.

We booked cars with drivers in Chengdu, Xian, Turpan and Kashgar with Old Road Tours and they were very good. Our contact Genessa was professional and efficient offering us advice and recommendations. The drivers were punctual and friendly. We drove up the Karakoram Highway to Lake Karakul and the scenery was fantastic.

We had been in contact with Old Road Tours before we reached Kashgar as they were helping us with the permits required for the Torugart Pass, as we had found them cheaper then some of their competitors. Their correspondence was always quick, informative, helpful and professional. When we arrived in Kashgar we met with Abdul and some of his brothers in their office located in the colourful Seman Hotel. They were very friendly and offered some great insight into Kashgar life and the surrounding area. We decided to book another tour with them - a 2 night trip along the Karakoram highway to Karakul Lake and the Kunjarab Pass. This became one of the highlights of our travels in China. The scenery just got better and better and we spent plenty of time outside the car taking photos. Mohammed was our guide and he was very informative and fun, arranging our meals and stops when needed, and allowing us to venture on our own when desired. Our later trip to the Torugart Pass with Old Road Tours into Kyrgyzstan across the border went easily with the Krygyz driver ready and waiting at the other side, with no customs or immigration issues. We would highly recommend Old Road Tours.

We had a fantastic time in Xinjiang with Old Road tours. We went on the 5 day popular discount tour. Our guides Patti and Zahir as well Driver Ma Rui were informative, friendly and really fun. It felt more like a road trip with a bunch of great friends. They took really good care of us and we always had a great time chatting over meals and coffee. The communication with the agency was smooth and prompt from the beginning (thanks to Genessa who made arrangements for our special requests). They also arranged our Driver, Tahir in Turpan who was great!

Aside from visiting the tourist spots, we also got a chance to walk through authentic old neighbourhoods (in Yarkant and Kashgar) and experienced Uyghur hospitality (through a local home visit) and enjoyed delicious Uyghur cuisine throughout the whole trip. We even visited their office in the historic Semen Hotel and explored the compounds (which is in the site of the Old Russian consulate)

The scenery in Tashkorgan and Karakul Lake is breathtaking and the drive along the Karakoram Highway is stunning. We made arrangements with them to bring our rented bikes from Kashgar to Tashkorgan and we had a wonderful time exploring the beautiful town during our free time. Really appreciate their time and effort in mounting our bikes on the SUV!
Other must do activities include visiting the Kashgar Old City, the Sunday Livestock Market, Opal Village Monday Market and Camel riding in the desert. Overall there were too many highlights during the whole trip.

I highly recommend Old Road Tours if you plan to visit Xinjiang and wish to visit the key tourist attractions as well as the off the beaten path sites. Thank you Patti, Zahir, Ma Rui and Tahir for a very memorable trip. :)

The service from the first contact via mail was great and Rachel was very fast in answering but as well in helping to adjust the tours to specific wishes. She came back with a proposal for a 2 days trip which is great to see the Karakoram HW, the beatiful Karakul lake and see Taxkorgan - the only Tajik autonomous area in China.
Our guide Tahir and the driver Adeltip (sorry if I got it wrong) were an amazing team. They took me to local places with them and I could get a more insight into local life. Tahir was always very helpful when it came to translate and guide us through the itinerary and even helped to get very good deals at shops - prices for locals. The trip was amazing and the views and impressions you get from the region are too much to find words for. Tahir will tell you more stories about the local traditions and you will not want to leave until you have seen the whole Xinjiang region.

I can only recommend everyone to travel to Xinjiang, especially Kashgar , it wont let you go so easily. It is such a diverse and culturally rich place and the people are very polite and helpful. It is a real melting pot of cultures and with the current boom it is at an interesting point of development. ..Oh yeah let Tahir take you to his favourite Ice Cream shop Avral and order the local flavour (no idea what it was called) it is a festival for every ice cream lover.

My daughter and I had 10-12 days to spend in Xinjiang and wanted to get acquainted properly. Of the several tour companies I found I liked Old Road because it's a local Uigher enterprise, not something the Han Government does, or something some foreign outsiders do. So for me there was no choice to be made, and we were never disappointed. Curiously, coming from somewhat rural Wyoming (Jackson Hole), I was surprized to find myself corresponding with a girl from Pocatello Idaho, about two hours down the road from us. She's in Xi'an, dealing with much of their English Language correspondence and scheduling. Just to be friendly, when we went through Xi'an, Genessa met us to walk through the Muslim Quarter and Xi'an Mosque one afternoon, then took another day to take us out to Hancheng and see Dangjiacun Village, a medieval village about a 3 hour train ride from Xi'an.
Working with Abdul, Genessa does an absolutely bang up job- from our Turpan stay at the Silk Road Lodges to the Bedroll and Breakfast (Find them on Google earth) type loop in the Taklamahan on camels, even to a stay in the Super 8 in Kashgar (great location) and the high camp at Karakul Lake- it all worked like a pro operation. We were very happy and would recommend Old Road as THE tour company to contact for a good solid- show you pretty much all of Xinjiang. If we had more time we'd have done and seen more. When we go back we will ploan to work with them again- it's just a good way to work it, having some local knowledge working for you, and in this case, it's a lot of local knowledge. We visited the Sunday livestock market the Sunday before Kurban, and Abdul was kind enough to invite us to his home to share the Kurban festival. That was a brilliant day, he had a number of guests over, we made some friends and afterword, went to find the Mo'er Pagoda- which turned into it's own adventure. In all our time in Xinjiang, we found our Uigher hosts, guides, and even acquaintances, shopkeepers, and market folks- to be among the most friendly and giving people in China.

Old Road Tours helped my dad and I design an incredible 5-day tour of southern Xinjiang. They were incredibly responsive and helpful during the planning phase making sure that we could fit in everything we wanted to do within our time frame. In 5 days we ended up being able to get a full tour of Kashgar (including the livestock market), the Karakoram Highway up to Tashkorgan with an overnight yurt stay at Karakul Lake, and then Yengisar, Yarkand, and Hotan. During the actual trip our guide Paty was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and flexible. Even though we are not in China anymore Paty still regularly keeps in touch. I think we have made a lasting friendship!

Before heading to Xinjiang, we traveled for two weeks with 5 different tour guides in the eastern part of China. Out of all of our guides I can honestly say that Paty was by far the best. We really appreciated Old Road Tours for their affordability, reliability and expertise. Would 100% recommend to anyone wanting to explore Xinjiang!!

As we saw so good review we decided to go with Old Road Tour to organize our 1-day trip to Karakul lake and 2-days camel trek in the desert closed to Yarkend.

We needed to finalize the payment and contacted Abdul by sms just before taking the plane to Kashi and he proposed to pick us up at the airport.

The first day to Karakul was very good with amazing landscape. We had a very good car and the driver was careful.

Our 2-day trek in the Yarkend desert was disappointing. The program mentionned the visit of the Yengisar knife factory on the way to yarkend, but our guide only brought us to the shop where you can buy the knife, so no factory. Arriving to Karasu, the last village from where the camel trek started, we needed to wait but we didnt know why, and finally started the trek at 6.00 pm local time. We stopped less than 1 hour later as our guide told us we needed to prepare the food before the sun set, and promise the trek would last longer the day after.
Since we were not very far away from the village, we could still hear some noise.

The 2nd day the camel trek was not longer, we just made the same way back. We were back to our hotel before lunch. The program mentionned the visit of a local village on the way back, however the driver needed to go to the airport to pick up other client in the afternoon, so there was no time for extra visit.

The 2-day camel trek was actually 45 min camel ride in total, and back to the hotel before lunch the last day. We made the tour during the chinese holidays in October, so they were probably busy, but we ended up with the feeling that it did not worth the money we paid.

I traveled to Kashi on a whim with my two sons, ages 9 and 17. We were in Beijing deciding between Chengdu and Kashi. I'm so glad we decided on Xinjiang Province. Abdul and his team put together a great 5-day plan for us. We had a variety of drivers; all were responsible and kind. Our guide, Musa, was exceptional, personable, fun and great with kids. I highly recommend Old Road Tours. We will definitely use them again if we are lucky enough to get to Kashi again. I'm hoping my husband can make the trip next year with one of the boys, as he missed out on a great adventure and a visit to a beautiful part of the world. Old Road Tours are terrific ambassadors for Uighur culture and the Kashgar region. Everyone was so nice!
