Well organized collections of fine ancient Chinese artifacts made of gold, jade, bronze, porcelain, clay, and others. My favourite piece was the Shang Dynasty bronze mask with golf foil.

Sanxingdui was a major sacrificial offering site of the Shu Kingdom, from which extraordinary bronze masks have been retrieved, and nearly all of them remain here, very well displayed in an attractive museum within a nicely landscaped compound. The site is 35 kilometers north of Chengdu, note that metered taxi may add surcharges for going beyond their "home district," but a non-metered car and driver from Chengdu can easily be had for 200¥, probably less if you enjoy bargaining in Chinese.…

This museum is based on excavations of an ancient Shu kingdom that seems to be contemporaneous but independent of the civilisation that grew up around the Yellow River. It is difficult to decode the sophisticated relics as writing is not available from this civilisation but it is unlikely given the terrain, the distance and the differences that this is related to the Yellow River civilisation.…

Amazing experience due to the quality of the artifacts, which really opens your mind to the sophistication of early Chinese civilisation (Shu people). Excellent modern museum with very good facilities. Not at all easy to get to due to the fairly remote location (90mins by car from Chengdu) and one would benefit from a local guide or organised tour.…
