These grottoes are smaller than Longmen, but much more accessible. No crowds, direct access. Very little damage, you can get into at least one or two of the grottos, Buddhas, stone carvings, frescos, so full of detail, color, very little damage.

These beautiful sculpted caves in Henan province, far less known as those of nearby Longmen, are outright stunning. Dating as far back as the Northern Wei,Tang and Song dynasties they offer you an array of classical Chinese sculpture of very high quality. Moreover, compared to Longmen, far less sculptures were demolished during the Cultural Revolution. The place is less crowded and the caves are very accessible. No doubt about it: Must see!

I first wanted to go to the other (xuehua) caves, but it was late in afternoon and wasn't sure about closing time so ended up at this place. Except 2 small openings built like a small Bouddha temple, there's no cave here.
The place has a small garden and it is very calm.
Closes at 18:00 and cost 30Y.
