Does not refund money!
Dec 2020 • Solo
I have requested a refund from this organization for the past 4 months. I was unable to attend the school because of covid-19 but they have failed to get back to my emails regarding refunding my money. I do not recommend this place at all.

An experience- not a holiday!

I cannot do better than recommend the review by b_clarke22.

At 73 I've done a couple of years of Yang style Tai Chi and with the help of the ever patient Master Ning I was able to complete the full 18 steps in just a fortnight. A very demanding but satisfying experience.

A life changing experience!
May 2018 • Solo
I spent a year living at the academy in 2015 and it was one of the best experiences of my life.
I met some amazing lifelong friends, and trained my ass off!

The training is hard, you train for about 6 hours a day, so it is no mean feat, but you don't have to be the fittest person in the world before you come. Although it definitely helps to have some level of fitness!

The food is fantastic, all home cooked by Mamma Bao, so it is really authentic Chinese food.

It gets super hot in the summer, and freezing cold in winter. It seems like there are two seasons rather than four, so just prepare for the time of year you are going.

Honestly, if you are reading this then you are probably already considering making this journey, and I thoroughly recommend you do.
It changed my life, made me fitter, calmer, more emotionally intelligent and has been a great talking point for my career back home (I work in Digital Marketing, so not even related to Kung Fu!)

The masters are truly incredible Martial artists as well as humble and lovely people, as are all the staff at Maling.

One of my most memorable of many, many memorable experiences was probably around my third day in China. I woke up early, around half 5, and decided to walk down to the lake. I sat there a while and ended up seeing the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen. The sun rose behind Maling mountain, and directly behind a Buddhist temple with the upturned roof at the top, making it an almost silhouette. Truly breathtaking!

A cannot recommend the school enough.

Seniors welcome
Mar 2018 • Solo
I spent three life changing weeks at the academy in March 2018. I went to learn Tai Chi Chen style as a beginner aged 70. I wasn't an athlete or a person with martial arts experience, although I had been doing yoga for a year. Despite being a beginner I was made to feel part of the community and at no time did I feel out of place. The students were very supportive, great fun and a delight to be around. They demonstrated the openess of spirit I sought from Tai Chi. The supereb Master Ning taught me the 18 step Chen style in three weeks, all the teachers were exceptional and always encouraged me to do my best, plus a little more! The setting was far from the busy city, but close enough when needed, transport was always easy to arrange. The accommodation was spacious but basic, hot showers, great vegetarian food and set in open countryside amongst farming communities. I have no hesitation in recommending this academy to seniors with or without experience.

2 week Tai Chi training, chen style
May 2018 • Solo
After an exhausting trip from Belgium (train, 2 airplanes, taxi...) I was picked up as arranged by the academy from the airport and I arrived late at night in the extreme dark at Maling Shaoling Kung Fu.
I was welcomed by a teacher who showed me my room and offered me a sandwich and a drink.
I felt right at home.
Meeting the students the day after, gave me an idea of the general atmosphere. Hard training, healthy lifestyle, and having fun, within the rules and limitations of the organization. I liked that. Bounderies , but not too strict.

Even though at walking distance thereis nothing to see, the organisation provies a translator on site, as well as an assistant trough wechat ( lisa ), who are permanently available. Tuktuk and taxi's are just to be asked for and they will come and bring you to the supermarket or anywhere you want to go. The teachers make sure you pay local prices and are not ripped off.

The students are nice and respectfull and pass along the general guidelines and life in the school to new students. That was nice. The diversity of students was superb. Young, old, middleaged , male, female...The personal goals are also different of each student. And in between, what connects them, are the classes and the scheduele .
It s very easy to meet people who can go together to a daytrip , or a weekend trip. Travelling in China is defenetly not always easy, and with 2 or more it just is more fun.

The tai chi teachings were exactly what I was looking for. If you go for only 2 weeks as i did (usually 3 is needed to see the full "chen 18 form"), make sure to look up tutorials on youtube the moves before you go. Memorizing the routine before will help you focus on more details.
The teacher was highly competent, very gentle and friendly, and most of all, very patient.

Look no further, this is ....

...the best Shaolin school closest to the overly commercialized original Shaolin school you can find in China!
The coaches are very patient if you're new and haven't done any martial arts. Enjoy the new school compound with full facilities and the vegetarian dishes cook by Master Bao's parents. Lookout for the 'once in awhile' occasional dumplings!

Shaolin Kung Fu is the coolest.
Jan 2017 • Solo
Going to school here for only 1 month changed my life to a greater degree than anything else I've ever done. It was difficult, but rewarding. I met some of the coolest people on the planet, and trained with the nicest masters. Overall a fantastic experience, except taking showers in the winter before they installed the water heaters, that was rough, but even that made me tougher in a way, and gave me a huge appreciation for a warm shower.

If you want a life changing experience, to grow as a person, meet new friends, and train from some of the most knowledgeable trainers on the planet. This is your destination.

I forgot to add, best food I've ever eaten, hands down.

Happy training,

Best Experience!!!! Recommend to everyone!!!
Nov 2015 • Solo
Practising Kung Fu at Maling Shan was one of the best adventures of my life.
I went to the academy with very little martial arts experience and average fitness. Naturally I was apprehensive about how I would be received but I found all the students and masters so supportive and kind. However it is a challenging experience. The masters are very strict and will push you to your physical limits, this means you will see great results and progress.

I would recommend Maling Shan to anyone, of any age, physical ability or martial arts background. It is just such a wonderful experience with so much to be gained mentally and physically. Like anything in life, the more you put in the more you will get out.

My time at the academy still has positive effects on my life, and I have many incredible memories.

I hope to return to the Maling Shan one day soon!!!

Everybody was Kungfu Fighting!
Apr 2016 • Solo
I trained Kungfu once before in a different Kungfuschool and totally fell in love with this Sport.
It's like dancing while learning how to defend yourself and it is the best workout you could ever have.
I researched a lot before I decided to go to Maling and I am really glad I picked this school.
It is outside of the city, so the air is nice and clean and it feels like family.

I will be staying here for a whole year and already improved so much over the last 6 months that I can't wait to see how much more is possible.

This place really will whip you back into shape and well who doesn't love swinging a sword around ;)

About the school itself can be said that there is a wild mixture of different nationalities, training groups are small with a maximum of 9 people while I was here.

The Master are all very skilled and it is fun to learn with them, but don't let them fool you, they can be super strict if it needs to be ;)

The school building is not bad and they offer heating blankets in the winter and fans in the summer! All in all can't complain.

I am loving it^^

An ideal place to work in and work out!!!
Dec 2015 • Family
I started to work in Maling Shaolin Kung Fu Academy the moment it was founded, so far i still enjoy working here a lot.

For people like me who studies English in university, the academy is the best place for you to practice and improve your English skills, and meet people from all over the world. Every one in the academy is happy, students like training, food and the environment, masters like teaching and translators like assisting and helping. It's always like a big harmonius famliy, that's what the academy wants it to be.

The best thing about this academy is the personal careness it casts on every one. No matter you train kungfu here for one month or one year, you can get the most out of it. You would receive enough careness to help you reach your goal.

Another bonus is the location of the academy, it's built in the Maling Mountain area, so it has clean air, natural lakes and green trains. Away from the city chaos, stress and disattractions, you can fully focus on what you do. Meanwhile, the city nearby, Xinyi, is easy enough to travel to, after all it's in the middle between Beijing and Shanghai, and a bullet train station will be built in the city too, so it'll cut the travel time to both cities significantly short.

If you have any change to travel to Jiangsu or Xuzhou, make sure you pay a visit, you will be impressed for sure.
