Interesting place
Jun 2019 • Couples
The people here seem to be of mixed race with eurasian looks. The food was good though and prices very reasonable. However did not have much time to wander about too much. Only Downside was the rooms were freezing in the place we stayed and we had to go to the local police station to register our visit. Otherwise quite tolerable

Russia just across the river
Jun 2015 • Friends
Went to Shiwei during early June. It wasn't crowded yet but I saw a lot of new hotels/guesthouse/Inn were built to accommodate the travelling peak period in July. So sadly this town has became a tourist town.
Nevertheless, the town was still very beautiful. Lots of Russian style wooden houses.
Me and my friend stayed at "Guo Li zhi jia" (果力之家). The guesthouse was owned by a Chinese-russian lady. Their house was about 5-7mins walk away from the town sqaure. The room we stayed overlook the river. The owner will cook for you Russian dishes for a small price.
Took a walk around town at night and there were a lot of vendors selling "shao kao" (烧烤) which was bbq food.

A little russian experience in China
May 2014 • Friends
I love the tranquil and wooden cottage feel of this town. People in Shiwei all have Russian blood, and some look like one too. We got to experience a lot of Russian influence in the town, and ate this bread-biscuit called Lie Ba. We also took a stroll along the Eerguna River and witnessed for ourselves the Russian village just across. It is possible to ride horse along the river too but we didn't because we already rode some horses that week having been around Inner Mongolia. So, we just sat and watched the horses grazed in the evening.

We took a long-distance bus from Labudalin station to Ji La Lin station, which stops right in the Shi Wei Town. I don't remember if there are more than 1 trip/day but I took the 930am bus and arrived at about 2pm. It costs 44yuan.

There are a lot of accommodations around, you definitely can find something you like. We stay with Linda House (Lin Da Zhi Jia), ran by a lady, Linda (hp:15247097013/15849094782), and her family. At the time of visit they were renovating and built a new row of rooms with nice toilets.

If you are going in the peak season (summer), you should book an accom in advance because it can get crowded.

P.s. It is rainy in Spring (Apr - Jun) and summer doesn't hit until July.

worth visiting, the boarder of China and Russia
Jun 2013 • Couples
the town is the most famous one among three Russia Ethnic townships, it's very commercial, full of food stalls and hostels (some of them are in glamorous scale, compared to the rest part of this town). Horse-riding along the Eerguna river, the boarder of China and Russia, is a nice experience in good weathers.

nice little town

a little too touristy but good overall, very interesting mix of China and Russian that you won't see anywhere else, I went in the fall so town was cold and quiet, nice horse ride around the river, would love to go back in the summer time.

worth a visit

great food, the russian/chinese mix of shops and restaurants gives the town a special feel. There is a small souvenir shop near the bridge that has a surprisingly good variety of souvenirs at very reasonable prices. I love the town.
