Have to confess as a 52 year old kid I loved this. Went up on the 8:55 Sunday morning, bit chilly so net on an inside carriage. Great views, fantastic to be above a soaring buzzard, fun in the tunnels with the youngsters whooping from the open carriages. We got off at boulquene (no loos there so do what you... More

There's a whistle, then a couple of toots, and we re off. Le petit train jaune est partie! The first of the day from Villefranche Vernet is at 8.55 am. You rattle along the wooded valleys, over spectacular gorges and viaducts, with occasional stops. Carriages are mostly enclosed but one or two are open on every train, which is what... More

This train trip is actually a regular service running from Villefranche de Conflent (station is called Villefranche -Vernet Les Bains) to Latour de Carol and takes 3hrs one way. This of course is too long for a return day trip with children/grandchildren but you don't need to go the whole way to appreciate the unique charm of this train. Just... More

We were visiting Villefranceh de Conflent with the hope of also taking the Petit Train Jeune...with excellent help from the SNCF staff at the Gare, we got tickets for later that day. Not really knowing what to expect, we boarded as planned in the open carriage which was a great choice as we spent the next couple of hours with... More

Went with the local village club, so a 06.30 departure. Arrived @ Villefranche-de-Conflent, where we had a look round before catching the train. As we were a group we were allocated a inside carriage, but as the train was not full those of us who wanted to be in the open top carriage, were allowed to. It was worth it.... More

We caught the train from Fontpedrouse to La Cabanasse and then returned on foot. A good walk of about 7 miles which took 4.5 hours. Path well marked and great views of the valley and the viaduct. Some steep descents so good footwear essential.

We loved the little yellow train. Would suggest going as far as Bourg Madame or Font Remhou instead of the top as more going on in each of those. That said we ate at the bistro cafe in latour du Carol right by the station and we had huge lunch of chicken followed by large tiramasu. You could have Spanish... More

The train ride itself is a fun experience. Wrap up warm if aspiring for one of the limited availability open top carriage seats. The scenery however, was nothing spectacular; unless you've never seen hills mountain passes before... significantly more impressive scenery available on a visit to Gavarnie & even Puy de Sancy (central massif). However, as train rides go... this... More

The first thing to say is that if you are starting at Villefranche de Conflent, and you have never been here before, make sure that you give yourself some time to look round this wonderful fortified village. It is listed as one of Le Beaux Villages de France - and rightly so. The railway station is just a couple of... More

It is a great line, but during May, because of track work, it does not go as far as Latour de Carol; only as far as Font-Romeu Odeillo-Via. The Little Yellow train is easy to get to from Perpignan - on a TER train with a destination of Villefranche - Vernet-les-Bains, where you just walk across the platform. You can... More
