From the beginning I was a bit confused by identifying certain routes like Nature Latemar, Latemar Unesco or perhaps Perlenweg. Then I realized that Latemarium is not only 8 adventure trails, outlook platforms with sensational panoramic view of the Dolomites, a network of cable cars and mountain huts, the forest zipline facility and others, but above all it is a modern concept to offer visitors a variety of activities as much as possible while respecting the environment. When we stop in awe at a group of trees near the upper lift station Oberholz and see that trees are from the mid-18th century, we realize what we have obligations to future generations in preserving this beautiful countryside. In the Dolomites you will find areas with higher mountains and wilder nature, but such calm and fascinating night sky with so many stars , hardly
Thanks to the attractions which Latemarium offers, visitors can experience this unique natural landscape more intensely han before. Hikers can climb the highest peak of the Latemar - Cimon del Latemar (2846 m) or to the Latemar hute or to Weisshorn by the medium-hard mountain hiket.
We can recommend a visit to "South Tyrolean 'Gran Canyon" - Geoparc Bletterbach.where nature-loving families with children may spend many adventures with geological history. An important group of visitors, which is focused concept, the families and the children themselves. On his coming here as well as mountain bikers. Assist in the planning of your program may also the Tourist Information Office, where you can get maps of the area, to purchase Guest card and obtain additional information.. In Obereggen this center is in the complex Platzl.
The concept Latemaria certainly include the opportunity to taste the local cuisine at the many mountain huts.
Marking the main tourist trails is very good, in some parts (for example, when the output in the Camosci gap or on the road number 14 from the Karersee Lake back to Obereggen..But it belongs to the mountain adventure.
Our mountain guide Sepp showed us some beautiful alpine flowers - naturally Alpen-Edelweiß, different kinds of gentian, Alpine Yellow Poppy and what surprised us still blooming Snowbell, Soldanella pusilla.
There still are building new facilities - for example, a new refuge with roof terrace at the mountain station of the chairlift Oberholz .or reconstruction of the Rifugio Torre di Pisa (Latemarhütte) However there has also been more like fifty percent more expensive, so-called municipal taxes compared to last year The Latemarium is a unique mountain resort, all the attractions can not be enjoyed in seven days. It would take at least two weeks. Personally, I would like to emphasize one more aspect - 7 to 14 days of stay in the fresh air at altitudes 1 500- 2100 m has an extremely high curative effect and not just for kids.
Definitely go there with the whole family.

We chose to go to Latemarium as it was a very cold and wet day yet we still wanted to do something active. So we took the chairlift up to Oberholz and did this delightful walk. For much of the walk, we were above a layer of clouds so wasn't as wet as we had expected. There were interesting things to see along the way with information. Watch out for the poisonous purple flower - don't touch - it is mentioned in some information boards.
We stopped about half way at Mayrl Alm where we had coffee and delicious apple strudel. A lovely respite from the weather. Going early, there were hardly any other people. It was getting busy as we returned down the chairlift. A lovely way to spend a morning, especially if you have young children.

Having two small grandchildren, as it was a beautiful and clear day, we decided to drive to the Latemarium in Obereggen.
Once the car is parked, go up a comfortable uphill road to the Pampeago alp.
Unfortunately, you can see the thousands of trees blown down by a windstorm in 2018.
It will take over a hundred years to restore this wonderful wounded forest.
We are under the beautiful rocks of the Latemar group, a rock enchanted by the rays of the sun.
Along the route of about 3 kilometers, partly in the sun and partly in the shade, there are benches with signage also in English of the local history of timber harvesting.
In that place, there is a magnificent wooden horse for transporting timber, life-size.
Continuing along the easy road, just before arrival, there are the sound bells, to make the children compose melodies and, once you arrive, a wooden astronomical observatory, from which the beauty of the Latemar rocks is monitored.
There is no shortage of refreshment places where you can stop and taste the local specialties.
The area is also perfectly served by chair lifts and you can reach the villages of Pampeago and Predazzo.
It is a lovely excursion and particularly recommended for families with children, precisely because of the extension of large green lawns,
where you can stop to rest or play with children.
For the adults, you start with the cable car from Obereggen and you can arrive with a circular tour in Trentino and then back to the base (high Latemarium).
For people who want to dare more, they can reach the top of the mountain, where they can stop at a renovated hut. The descent is challenging.

If you do not like or if you are not able to hike you might have a look at some of the latemar locations. It is touristic but some places offer a fantastic view.

We went for a hiking in Obereggen. There is a tourist center where you can find a free map of the area with all hiking trails even if tourist center is closed. From there we drove to Epircher Laner by car and parked it there. We did overall 21 kilometer of various hikes in the area. Trails are well marked. You can continue from Epircher Laner parking place straight on paved road. After an hour or so you will reach a restaurant and from there you can go up to the higher parts of various trails - 2200m and above. On the way there are trail marks and additional interesting information. Just be aware about the snow on some trails, that could be a bit dangerous. Some part of the high altitude trail was completely covered by snow and it was slippery (May 15th).
