We stumbled upon this 6th century church while going to Tharros (ancient Roman ruins just metres away). The car park is just before the church, and we stopped in as the door was open. The church is an unusual shape with a domed roof. Inside, the entire church is cool from the stone, but you feel the warmth of the... More

We weren't looking especially for this old church but found ourselves parked right beside it. It is an amazing, well preserved structure dating back to the 6th century. Not ornate but simple in structure inside and out. The stone font has a fish carved into the bottom of the bowl. Well worth a visit. Free entry.

The church of San Giovanni is a magnificent example of 11th century design. Inside the simplicity adds to its charm, with a small altar and very interesting wooden tabernacle. Well worth a visit.

This Paleochristian era church is so old! It feels like the stones carry centuries of spiritual energy with its simple interior, cool and damp atmosphere. A quick stop and free.

The church is built on an area formerly used as a necropolis Punic and then Christian. It is located near the beach with the same name and is very interested for the history passionate.

Found at the bottom of San Giovanni di Sinis. Although this is not the attraction you will get wild with, but the view you see at the top most in the Torre. The view is simply magnificent and I think second to Isola Tavolara, this is one of my best places to visit in Sardinia.

A very unusual and antique church... a must see for all of you who are in the Oristano area and very close to the church you can also visit the famous ruins of the Phoenician town of Tharros...

We were exploring the west coast of Sardinia on a day trip and happened to pick out the Penisola del Sinis for no particular reason except to combine beach, archaeology at nearby Tharros and a drive over the mountains from the east side. The whole experience was rather bizarre in the combination of structures you will find in the area...thatched... More

I really love this church. Very ancient (6 century). It is located in a little village on the sea, close to Tharros the ancient phenician-roman city ruins at San Giovanni in Sinis. It is perfect if you are looking for quietness and silence, while the close beach is crowdy in summer, enjoying the sense of purity of its simple beauty.... More
