We took the 20 tunnel trip from Whangamomona and thoroughly enjoyed it - not only the scenery that couldn't be seen in any other way but also the commentary from Rob that placed things in perspective. Great use of old infrastructure that would otherwise go to waste. A recommended experience.

On Saturday 4 March 2017 my wife and I went on the 10 Tunnel adventure on the Forgotten Highway via Laurens Lavender Farm to our start point at Tokirima where our Railcarts were waiting. The distance was 40km via Ohura a Excellent free lunch stop in this Ghost town that used to be a thriving mining town and a low... More

Yesterday our group of 4 60 year olds experienced a wonderful day provided by the Forgotten World Adventure group. We booked the ten tunnel trip as recommended by our children. It was excellent. The guide Rob, a railway man most of his life, had a stream of great stories, local history and empathy for the district and its people past... More

We did our 20 tunnel trip from Tauramanui to Whangamomona last Friday and would recommend this to anyone who wanted to do something a little different and off the main roads. We had such a super day which started in low mist which gave us a very surreal feeling when you couldn't see where the train track was leading. Then... More

Thanks for your lovely review. As we get into March it gets more common to have that low morning mist. Agreed it certainly adds to the atmosphere! More

The 4-day epic option offered by Forgotten World Adventures seamlessly weaves together three, four or even five different components in the grand loop to Stratford, Whanganui and return to Taumarunui. They use different tour guides in each of the five legs but we were fortunate to be hosted by passionate locals, all with family connections to this unique and historic... More

A wonderful trip to do as a group, there was 20 of us from Taupo and everything was so well organised. Travelling through the back blocks of rural King Country, we stopped for morning tea with home made slice, lunch a lovely fresh sandwich and home make cake, and afternoon tea with light refreshments. This was a great trip going... More

I took the motorised railway tour over two days, the Ultimate. I started at Stratford, spent the first night in Whangamomona and finished in Tauramunui. You can also go the other way. It was great going through countryside that is hard to reach by road, picking blackberries along the way and discovering the history of the area. The motorised golf... More

A little noisy on the track - good the buggies now have plastic wheels! May be even better once electric motors are fitted. Well protected from the elements, not that protection was required.Weather chilly but fine even for February.

We've wanted to go on the railcarts for some time and a visit from my brother and sister in law was the perfect excuse. It wasn't a big deal choosing the trip even though they would only be here for two days. We were greeted my big smiles when we arrived at FWA HQ. Those smiles were on every staff... More

Ever since my sister completed the Forgotten World adventures 20 tunnel trip from Taumarunui to Whangamomona several years ago, I have wanted to experience it myself and I finally did yesterday. It did not disappoint, even though the weather wasn't the best. Lovely friendly guide and other staff, and informative and interesting historical signs along the way, not to mention... More
