Stratford to The Republic by RailCart

Few visitors to Taranaki realize that they can visit an entirely separate (albeit unrecognized) country simply by taking a short train. On this rail tour departing from Stratford, discover the so-called Republic of Whangamomona (population 200) which jokingly declared its independence from New Zealand in 1989 and which has been ruled at times by a goat, a poodle, and the local publican. Combine your visit to the Republic with a scenic journey and a visit to a local organic farm to sample fresh produce.

Rotorua is the closest and it's about 2 and half hours through to Taumarunui. It is a winding road but a lovely trip so good to allow plenty of time. We do hope you choose to come through.
