This was a fabulous day trip we both thoroughly enjoyed. Travelling the rail by golf cart at a maximum speed of 22km - we had an almost perfect day and were able to drop the front screen down as well. Spectacular scenery. The team of Maree and Kev made it so easy, interesting and informative. A lunch break with a... More

A group of 14 cyclists from the Thames 50+ cycling group travelled to Taumaranui to ride the adapted railbikes on railway tracks. We really had no idea how this would be but we are an intrepid bunch so were looking forward to the challenge. We stayed 2 nights at the Forgotten World Motel and it was excellent. Friendly helpful staff.... More

This is the most amazing experience and worth the cost. Such fun to use the golf buggies and tootle along the track at maximum speed of 22 km. From the start to finish it is very well organised, safety being a prime consideration. A cuppa beforehand at Lauren's Lavender Farm and then away we went on the 10 tunnel tour.... More

An excellent and different way to see New Zealand's back country and to appreciate the challenges faced and overcome by the early pioneers who envisaged, planned and constructed the railway. Tip - pay heed to the pre-tour advice and take warm, wind proof clothing, hat and gloves, as the wind in those tunnels, all 20 of them, is cold and... More

It was a great trip. The organisation couldn't be better. The travel guide (Ray) was nice and extremely knowledgeable. A trip to do again. We stayed in their hotel as well. A 10 out of 10 for them too

The 5 tunnel trip was advertised as a 3.5 to 4 hour trip. We left the main meeting place at 12...left the track yard at 12.25pm . Returned at 2. 25pm to the track yard. Drove back to Taumarunui, via a longer back route ,arrived there about 2.55 pm . We thought we would be in a two person cart... More

We appreciate that you took the time to write a review, despite it being our worst ever Trip Advisor score! The 5 Tunnel is new this year and the first time we have run anything less than full day tours. We are still developing and tweaking the tour and the time frames, but on average complete the tour in 3.5... More

This is an adventure not to be missed. You self drive modified rail carts on a disused railway line from Taumaranui to Whangamomona the first day. 80 kms. A second day can also be added taking you almost to Stratford. The old hotel at Whangamomona is another great experience.

We signed up for the 5-tunnel trip that takes four hours and ends in Matiere. It was a great way to see the country side and enjoy the beauty of the area. The grassie rolling hills are so pretty, dotted with sheep and cows and the occasional farm house. I took some good photos and will be interested to see... More

We had never heard of this adventure until it was mentioned by a family member. We decided to give it a go, and were not disappointed. We had Rob as our guide, a gentleman with a huge amount of knowledge which he was keen to share with the 11 adventurers on our particular trip. The scenery was wonderful! All too... More

I had done the rail carts before, but this time I returned with my wife to do the Rail River Run. My wife was a little sceptical about the jet boat at first, but by the end she loved it. My second visit was every bit as good as my first.
