A shell beach above the high tide and mud flats formed of millions of bleached cockle shells. Very startling and beautiful in the sunshine. Unspoilt and natural beside the coastal path and beautiful gardens of the waterfront properties.

As we pulled up in the carpark opposite the boatyard, the sun was shining and it glistened on the water. We walked along the front, passed the pub, lifeboat station, some beautiful houses and the little cafe at the end. We kept walking along the private road (pedestrian access only to the public) and there it was..... shell beach!!! This has to be one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited. I instantly fell in love with this little place. The beach was just full of shells, ee walked and walked until we came to the rock pools, where the biys spend about 2 hrs climbing and exploring. When I say boys, I mean 2 teenagers, dad and grandad!!! They all thoroughly enjoyed this beach. Had it not been so late in the day we would have taken the public footpath on to Rockcliffe, but we wouldn't have been able to get there and back before it got dark.

We parked just off the Dalbeatie road and walked through the forest to get here. Simply lovely. A sheltered cove with a small sandy area and rocks to clamber over. Great for paddling with the kids. Not much else around - small car-park, a toilet block, an ice-cream van. Just what's needed really!
