Although it is an imposing building, maintenance is quite poor. We have visited about 7 yrs ago for the first time and were wondering if the beautiful water bodies and possibilities for fountains, that exisisted before would be reinstated. Well, seven years on and it is evident that the bare minimum of upkeep to this sight is being done.

My wife and I liked this visit. We are glad to learn from another reviewer there is a restoration programme underway as it is an important part of this regions history, originally constructed to ward off mogul attacks. It has the potential to become a beautiful part of this wonderful city’s attractions. The location is simply amazing with the river on two sides. The small garden in the middle seems to attract studying students which is nice to see - not sure which schools or colleges are nearby. I would definitely pay a visit if in the city.

Red Fort is not maintained by authorities but location wise, it is good place. In Muzafarabad city there are not so many places to visit for tourists so visitors came to see Red Fort.

well i thought that it will be some things but it has not much to offer. one positive point is that it is beside the river. you can enjoy it and then it has vantage point from where you can see. otherwise there is nothing. its a small fort. few broken walls and doors. thats it.
it cannot be the main purpose of your visit to muzaffarabad.
you can take beautiful pictures but it is nothing like the fort in lahore.

Red Fort is located at a very scenic location along the bank of Neelam River. Though many parts of the fort are in ruins, but it was very heartening to learn from authentic sources that Govt of AJ&K has undertaken a fort restoration programme. The work is being done by a firm that specializes in restoring ancient sites.
Even in the current shape when hardly any room has a roof intact and many of the walls are in shambles, the small fort does convey what a majestic and imposing building of its time it would have been.
The construction of the fort was started in 1549 by Chuk Rulers and it continued in stages up to 20th century. For those interested in history, Red Fort is a must go site in Muzaffarabad.

This fort is in the center of the city and is easily accessible by public transport and rickshaws. Fort is relatively small and has been damaged in earthquakes.
