Great for a short bicycle ride
Jun 2019
Ride around the lake with a bicycle in just a few hours. Only 30-33 km.. Some can do it in two hurs, or chose a more relaxed full day enjoyment with a several stops for bathing, eating, etc. Can easily be reached from Budapest by car or train.

A well day spent with my squad. One of the best place in Hungary and it’s just 30 kilometres away from capital Budapest.

Velencei tó / Another lake on the way to Balaton
Oct 2018 • Family
Just in between Budapest and the lake Balaton.
Must see Velence and the Gardony quay.
In Velence there is a fab view from the tower.
You can also see the birds flying high in the sunset from rhe birdwatch or just bike around the lake.

Great cycling spot

This lake is very accessible from Budapest and has a very well laid out cycle path that circuits almost the whole lake. I rented a bike from a Zilaj Bringa, a bike rental shop very close to the Velence train station. Took about 3 hours to circle the lake on a path that often ran very close to the lake and was mostly through fields and then through the small village of Velence itself - all nice and flat. Went on a weekday and saw few other cyclists, and most I did see were Hungarians so a nice day away from the tourist heavy Budapest.

Balaton's little sister

I love Velencei lake. It's close to Budapest, so you can get there in half an hour by train. The water is not very clean but safe to swim in it. There are buffets, bars amd sports facilities on the beaches, so you can spend a whole day there easily.

Nice lake. But a bloody awful tourist destination, way to over crowded. Bar's and restaurants, average. But the completely missing service is all over present. No smile, no small talking, its more and more typical for the most tourists areas in Hungary, it's more than normal that the personal are responding almost as if it was an insult to speak to them.

Nice but crowded
May 2018 • Couples
Me and my boyfriend occasionally come here to hang out. It is a nice place but there are sooo many people here. The most annoying thing is that even though the sign shows that cycling is forbidden 🚫 in some places people still do and pedestrians especially couples could not walk side by side because they have to move..
The beach is quite nice 👍🏻.
The food depends on where you go inside. It’s a nice place but it is crowded. 😕

Close enough to the capital city and has its own fresh atmosphere with a lot of things to discover in the Hungarian countryside, as well. Highly recommended.

Strange but a interesting stop off
Sep 2017 • Friends
On a day tour of the Balaton lake area we made a final stop at Lake Velence (said by our driver to be named after Venice - but who knows). It is a small lake that has been converted with EU money into a beach (of real sand) and a perpetual roundabout of a water skiing contraption. Altogether strange, but the people there seemed to be enjoying the beach experience many miles from a sea and the water skiing looked entertaining although I wondered what happened when you fell off (no one did during our brief stay).
