The Brackendale Art Gallery & Teahouse is a unique gallery and an even more unique experience. It is a passion project of Thor Froslev and Dorte, his wife, nestled in among evergreen trees in Brackendale, a Squamish subdivision just north of town, on the way to Whistler. A visit will reward you in viewing great photography, paintings, sculptures, mixed media art and more. Their salmon bisque, borscht and other soups are renowned. There is frequent live entertainment by artists such as Valdy, Barney Bentall and others - it's like watching live entertainment in your living room. There is also a chapel for special gatherings. Check the web site for their hours. But do plan to experience "The BAG" (Brackendale Art Gallery).

I have been dropping into the Brackendale Art Gallery Theatre Teahouse for over 17 years and never had a bad experience. The meals are hearty, fresh and home made. Can't get any better than that. I have attended music presentation, plays, community events, Jan 1st Eagle Watch Gathering, or just a quiet sit and sip a Latte in front of the beautiful fireplace. Chatting with Thor or Dorte is always a treat and always interesting. The gallery of art is amazing and every month a new artist displays his/her art. I have purchased art from the gallery, as have some of my friends.
Always a warm welcome and great hospitality.

North American bald eagles wintering spot! In 2014, they counted 1600 in the area. Trees by the river are thick with them as they swoop down to feed on salmon. Can you imagine? You will feel like you are watching a movie it is so surreal. Start at the art gallery and ask for the best viewing spots. The gallery itself is worth the stop.

This place is probably the quirkiest place I have seen and be sure there will never be another place like it, but I love it because it is quirky. It offers a Chapel, art gallery, concert hall, bell maker, bird sanctuary and the list probably goes on - who knows….lol. It is typically only open on weekends in the evening, unless a special event is being hosted. Live music and dancing is often featured, as well as life theatre. If you happen to arrive during the day, no worries. You can always walk around the complex and enjoy what it has to offer. A very limit menu is offered (4 different kinds of soup and fresh veggies), along with beer and wine. Kid friendly.

I live in Squamish and have been to the Brackendale Art Gallery many times. I think that it's a key part of the Brackendale community. There is a lot of stuff going on there. We recently went to a 'Broadway Theatre' night there and was impressed with the quality of the entertainment. I think that the District of Squamish should buy this facility and incorporate it into the District Plans in the future. It would be a shame to see it drift away.

The curators of the Art Gallery and Theater House gave us a private tour of the artists areas where so many mediums are used.
I saw a towering 13 foot Bear cast in silver wow!!
The lunch served was a hearty soup with home made bread! Yummy

We dropped by the Gallery not knowing it was also a venue for live music. We expected more in the way of art so we were a bit disappointed. However, the building was very interesting and the hot chocolate warmed me up!

The BAG has such a unique quality. It is a beautiful building that feels like it houses the essence of the west coast of BC and reflects a lot of what living in Squamish is about. Beautiful artwork and sculpture displays that are constantly changing. Lovely food, and always good company. The real star attraction for me though, has been the numerous shows and musicians I have had the privilege of seeing there through the years. Always stunning musicians, amazing acoustics, intimate atmosphere. From listening to powerful opera singers, to rockin' out to the Paperboys, Thor has a way of selecting and presenting the best. Whenever I go to a concert there I am always aware of how rich the experience is and how lucky I am to be there. The BAG is a beautiful, timeless, cultural gem with so many good memories for me.
