About
The author of Cyrano de Bergerac created a sumptuous theatrical decor for his dream home. The charming French and English gardens delight the visitor with their romantic walks. A veritable «poem in stone and vegetation», the Villa Arnaga has to be explored or reexplored :In 2014, you'll have the opportunity to admire the renewed gardens similar to the ones imagined by Edmond Rostand with their box wood embroideries, their topiary bushes, their plant vases, their mirror like pools. The "poets' corner " will surprise you with its lattice work. In a word a typical French garden with its perfectly geometrical design ! Open daily from April 1 to November 1. From April to June and September to November : 9:30 to 12:30 and 14h to 18h . In July and August : 10h -19h . In 2020, due to the Covid epidemic, our opening hours are modified. Superb villa and gardens
Aug 2020
Edmond Rostand, forever famous for Cyrano de Bergerac, built this amazing place in the early 20th century. Both the house and the gardens are gorgeous.

Lovingly. created family home dating from early 20th Century, Cambo les Bains, Pyrenees.

The gorgeous, highly individual rooms make perfect backdrops to the creative talents of the Rostand family in early 20th Century. The formal gardens echo the perspective.
Unfortunately no tearoom because of the Confinement but nevertheless, a deligtful outing.

Well kept secret

I went to Arnaga on the advice of a local. It's the home of the author of Cyrano de Bergerac. I know the story but didn't know the author. From the home and property, I can see he was not only creative but a big thinker. The house is grand and well presented and there are not many people so it was very tranquil. There are also lovely gardins (it is known as the Versaille of the Basque). I didn't have time, but you could pack a little lunch and enjoy it. A lovely way to spend the afternoon. Also I believe there is fairly good public transport to it from Biarritz.

Beautiful
Jun 2019 • Couples
Absolutely beautiful french and english gardens, the villa itself is just as spectacular and it's 19 rooms are well explained in English thanks to the information sheets found in each room. Over 100 beautiful pieces of art work by Jean Veber are currently exposed in the villa until the end of 2019. This is a great place to visit on a sunny day and make the most of the gardens. It is quite easy to spend all afternoon here.

Ambience!
Apr 2018 • Couples
Villa Arnaga is the house and elaborate gardens formerly belonging to author Edmond Rostand who wrote Cyrano De Bergerac. It is a self-guided attraction where you can go throughout the house and grounds. The house is set up to display just how people lived during that period. The nearby town of Cambo les Bains is also picturesque.

Fascinating Insight into Edmond Rostand, the Man.
Sep 2017 • Solo
I was struck by the beauty and charm of the French garden. The house is set in a lovely environment and is full of interesting snippets on the Rostand family and their contribution to French Lit. The best bit for me were the wall paintings which Edmond Rostand commissioned. The ones in the children's schoolroom illustrate well-known French nursery rhymes. It is refreshing not to see notices not to touch this or that and one is made to feel welcome into a family home. Not to be missed. In the off season it is closed between 12.30 and 14.00h.

Interesting house and beautiful gardens
May 2017 • Friends
A real cultural treasure inland from Biarritz. The beautiful ornamental gardens lead up to a spectacular house built and lived in in Basque style by the playwright Edmond Rostand of Cyrano de Bergerac fame amongst many fine plays.

Views from the house are remarkable looking down the gardens to the mountains beyond. Interior decor has a homely feel with beautiful floors of marble and wood and murals painted by artist friends of the owner.

Free parking is in the grounds. Guided tours are available. Well worth a visit.

Intelligently presented with great ambiance

What I particularly liked was the absence of signs saying "Do not touch". Visitors are treated like intelligent adults and allowed a good amount of free access to what has been a lovely family home and an interesting garden with modern touches. A couple of hours should suffice to see all the essentials. Read up a little about Edmond Rostand before your visit and this will enhance your experience.
