Pascal went above and beyond to find a perfect fish-able trout water so early in the season. Not only is his knowledge of the area is unmatched, but also is his ability to adapt to the conditions and skill level of the fisherman. Through good humor and patience he taught me some new techniques to best land the native browns and we had immediate success. We had an unforgettable alpine setting for one of the most epic days on the water in my life!

Fishing with Pascal on Lake Brienz was an incredible experience. One could not ask for a more beautiful setting! Pascal is a true professional with great knowledge of the water and local landscape. Truly one of my favorite days fishing, not only due to the challenge of the Pike, but for Pascal’s hospitality and conversation, instruction, and good humor. Rather one is a beginner or of great experience, Pascal can design an epic day on the water. My wife labels our fishing day as one of her favorite events in our entire visit to Switzerland and she didn’t even cast once!

Fantastic day on the River Sense! Pascal is a brilliant guide, very knowledgeable, organised, patient and friendly. Was my first time nymphing with wet flies, so I had a lot to learn, and Pascal was a great teacher. It had rained heavily the day before and the river was rushing but fortunately not too muddy. Pascal knew exactly where to find the fish and how to catch them and passed on all his tips and tricks. It all paid off with a catch - my first barbel, and a beauty! Pascal is a great fellow to spend the day with and really looked after me (even making sure I didn't lose my footing crossing a fast river). I must also commend him for providing high quality equipment, and persevering the whole day while I learned, until we had a catch as the sun was sinking. Best birthday present ever!

Just got off the river with Pascal. Whether you are looking for basic instruction or refining your current technique, Upstream is your one stop shop. Pascal's knowledge of swiss rivers top to bottom is hard to match. He will put you on fish and coach you through landing them. If you're looking for an introduction into fly fishing basics or looking for a guide that knows the honey pots around the Berneise mountain range and more, Pascal and his hound side kick Charley are the team you want. Cant wait to get out there again.

I had a great day of flyfishing with Pascal in the Sense river, in a beautiful setting. Pascal responded timely to my questions while arranging the day. Pascal is an easy going person, who provided me, a starting flyfisher, a lot of handy tips. Although we were early in the season, we managed to catch two well-sized barbels. So, highly recommended to book a day with Pascal!

I recently had the pleasure of fly fishing with Pascal, an exceptionally knowledgeable, as well as personable, guide. He can provide all of your gear as well as a boat to fly fish for lake pike. He is worth every penny of his fee! I hope to have the opportunity to fish with him again the next time that I return to the Interlaken area.

Without a doubt my highlight of a 10 day tour through Europe. It started back in Perth Western Australia about a week before we left for our trip with some research online for the Best Fly Fishing Guide in Switzerland..... and we found him.... His name..... Pascal Zeller... his company name.....Upstreamflyfishing..... his website upstreamflyfishing.com. We crossed referenced diaries, emailed and spoke over the phone and locked in the 30th July at 6.30am to be picked up from the hotel I was staying at in Winderswil.

6.30am on the dot, Pascal arrived. I jumped in his car loaded with a few 8wt fly rods, tackle, outboard fuel and supplies. About 10 minutes of small talk and we had driven through an old disused airport and had arrived at our destination..... Lake Brienz.

Lake Brienz is a lake just north of the Alps, in the canton of Berne in Switzerland. It has a length of about 14 kilometres, a width of 2.8 kilometres and a maximum depth of 260 metres. Its area is 29.8 square kilometres, and the surface is 564 metres above the sea-level.

Within minutes we were on the water and the casting began in some of the most picturesque scenery one could imagine.

Pascal and I casted our little hearts out with large weighted flies for hours. The water was quite a milky blue due to snow melts and rain recently, so visibility in the water wasn’t great. Lots of great conversation on fishing and technical aspects of casting and backcasting etc... Pascal has plenty of tips to improve your chances of hooking a fish. The trick is getting as close to the snags and overhanging trees as you can without hooking the snag(which we both did numerous times!!:)) If you’re not hooking the trees and snags with your fly at least a few times then you’re not in ‘the zone’...
That’s what we said anyhow. No risk no reward.:)

Pascal has an awesome boat which is perfectly designed to have one fishing from the front and another fishing from the rear. Powerful outboard for travelling, and an electric motor for fishing in close.

As time ticked on.... we were running out of day. I was due back at the hotel over an hour ago but had no plans for the rest of the day so Pascal gave me some over-time... we were getting along very well and swapping many fishing yarns from the years gone by when we came across this beautiful old building which back in the day was a private residence and was now a home for boys.... Pascal advised me we had a few hundred metres here to cast to and then we’d be finished. Alas no fish as yet..... and no sign of any fish....as yet. My last cast would be only a few minutes away.... I was getting a little disheartened as still no sign of any fish life on Lake Brienz today and I must have cast that fly over a thousand times:( My shoulder and wrist were starting to feel the effects of RSI... but not long to go now... I had a few casts left in me.. or that’s what I thought....

This is where I asked Pascal if his Polaroid sunglasses were making much difference(mine were still in my bag as the water didn’t appear clear enough to warrant using them). He said it helped him see the snags just under the water a little bit better and when the fish strikes u can see the flash of the side of the pike better.

This is when things got serious... I managed to land the fly perfectly about a foot past a snag/ branch under the water just beneath the overhanging trees...... Pascal said ‘do you see it?’ I said ‘what?’ He said ‘the snag’.. I said yes... just as I had tweaked the fly over the snag and then let the weighted fly sink...... Pascal suddenly yells out “@$&)#{*’. “ (now I thought that he thought that I was going to get snagged on that branch) but I was wrong......

Pascal had seen the flash.....the Pike that had eluded us all day had engulfed the fly and we were “ON”!!! and.... this Pike has some fight!!!

It was going crazy and pulling line out at a fast rate of knots, but the drag on the fly reel was set perfectly and we managed to land this beautiful fish within 5 minutes or so. We were wanting to release it but it had swallowed the fly so deep that this 70cm specimen of a Pike wouldn’t have survived if we had released it.

Pascal said that his wife wouldn’t be happy. I asked him why. He replied “ ‘cos I’m having Pike for dinner tonight....and she’s away.” I laughed, we took some photos, and headed back in. So I can now say that I landed a Pike in Switzerland on my last cast...

Thank you Pascal. The 30th of July 2019 is a day I will never forget.

If you are still reading this then I suggest you contact Pascal now and see if you too can create a lifelong memory Fly Fishing in Switzerland.

My wife and I have been planning our trip to Switzerland for the past two years. Being a flyfisherman, I naturally searched for guides, hoping to take in a day of angling. Luckily, my search returned Pascal’s website. I contacted him and in our email exchange we found a mutually agreeable day.
Pascal took me to a remote alpine river where we spent the day fishing a 2 wt. for small brown trout that readily rose to the surface to caddis and hopper patterns. It was a day of angling that I will never forget in an area of breathtaking beauty.
Don’t miss an opportunity to fish with Pascal. You will not be disappointed with his guiding skills, knowledge of the area, lunches and lively conversation.

Our fishing day with Pascale at the Sense river was wonderful. Even though the weather was moody, with pascals positive and friendly attitude my friend and myself had a very good time. At noon he served us a self cooked and very tasty goulash that we heated over a wood fire. Pascale is a very experienced fisher, what he showed not only in the way he coached us, but also by catching a fish at a spot almost unreachable - stunning!

I highly recommend Pascale for anyone who wants to learn fly fishing!
