This place offers a lot of unforgettable fun and is definitely something for your bucket list in Switzerland. The new building is more or less cool in summer and of course warm in winter, and if you can't go for your planned activity/trip because it rains this is an amazing option to make the best out of your day or night or your trip here anyway..High level party 7 days a week from 4pm to 0:30 am with sophisticated music..at daytime a little more laid back and in the evenings it depends on the customers what we make out of it.. and also here's one of the cutest puppies in town..what else can one ask for..

The train is quaint, and the views amazing (we did the Panoramaweg walk, which actually is not for the faint of heart). However the train is quite small and slow (a fast walking pace), so it takes a good 50 minutes to make the trip each way. Even in the middle of the week in the off season, it was crowded. Everyone is loaded into the quite small carriage with bench seating, so you have to snuggle up. Even though everyone was wearing a mask, being in a small airless carriage with 30 or so other people didn't feel safe. In fact the folks next to us objected to being asked to board the train with so many people, but since the train is the only way down other than walking, they had no choice. In fact, they got off half way down, presumably to walk the rest of the way. They should really put the train to at least half capacity. I'd avoid this experience until Covid is no longer an issue.

Went to Schynige Platte to start my hike to First. A very nice place to start hikes from here. Even with short hikes (1-2 hours) you will be able to see rewarding views!

The only way to reach Schynige Platte, other than hiking, is by the historic cogwheel train that departs from the train station in Wilderswil. The 50-minute leisurely train ride is very scenic with some breathtaking views of the high mountain peaks of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. When riding this railway you are also experiencing authentic Swiss railway history. All the locomotives are from the Belle Epoque period and some of the coaches are even older. The expression Belle Époque "beautiful era" came into use after the First World War as a nostalgic term for what had seemed a simpler time of optimism, elegance, and progress before the war. The operation of the mountain railway from Wilderswil to Schynige Platte was opened in 1893. Steam locomotives were used until 1914 when the track was electrified. Since the conversion to electric operation, no other significant changes have been made. When making the assent try and sit on the right side of the train for a slightly better view as it climbs up the rolling meadows and dense forest. The train also passes through a few tunnels and the views just keep getting better and better until you arrive at Schynige Platte which is situated 6,454 feet above sea level. This is considered one of the classic mountain lookouts in Switzerland.

The trip to Schynige Platte can be done with the ‘top-of-Europe’ train pass. We took the train from Grindelwald to Wilderswil and then on to the Schynige Platte. It is a very good trip with an old-style train and beautiful views. We liked it much better than the over-hyped trip to the Jungfrau.

Make sure you go to Sychnigge Platte on a day when the weather is good, otherwise you cannot see anything! We had an amazing hike, it is not difficult at all ,it was the panorama trail (5km), however, we had to cut it short as the weather was bad and we took a shorter route. The view is just breathtaking throughout and you can see views of Brienzersee. . Please be mindful that once you get to the point where there is a picnic spot with benches that you have to cross a narrow ridge with views of Brienzersee, there is no railing and it can be dangerous with small children. This must be the most scenic spot in the area and was our favourite hike in the Jungfrau region. Must do! DO NOT MISS IT!
